Born Gary Lee Weinrib on the 29th of July, 1953, in Willowdale, Ontario, Geddy has been molding younger musicians for 30+ years now. His influence on rock bass can be heard in the music of Les Claypool (Primus), John Myung (Dream Theater), and Cliff Burton (Metallica). Geddy gets his name from his mother's heavy Yiddish accent when pronouncing 'Gary'. Geddy's parents migrated from Europe to Canada after being liberated from the German concentration camp Auschwitz in the dying days of World War II.
