The back of my throat has been sore today, or at least raw.

Ach! That sucks, man. How's it feeling today? A little better, I hope. Ever try Zinc? The chewable ones actually work. Place one at the back of your throat for as long as you can stand it or until it desolves. It has helped me stop those symptoms in their tracks. Nasty, gravelly things, though.
