But Mermaid's regenerative powers bring the children back to life. Then Mermaid throws Xan in a vat of boiling lard for messing with kids. The autopsy on Xan cannot tell if she burned or drowned first.

In the next life Xan harpoons the Seabitch and pulls her into the ship where all the sailors help torturing her by picking off her scales one by one and leaving her to die lashed helpless to the mast. Xan still laughs to this day when she thinks about the wretched screaming

Again, Mermaid's regenerative powers come in handy. She's feeling keen within a weeks time. Since, in her next life, Xan came back as a beetle, Mermaid simply squished Xan with her tail.
