He thought he used them both extensively. He made them useful. I'd like to try the fretless thing someday, like the bottom neck.Sir Myghin wrote:I don't see the purpose of the other 2 necks in that really, the open chords seem needlessElfDude wrote:Nothing like watching what Steve Vai can do with a triple-neck guitar...

I would have described it as showmanship rather than a trick. It made the audience happy. That's important stuff.Sir Myghin wrote:It was kind of neat when he was playing the part during the song on the synthy 12 stringer but that seems more just a trick than improved playing to me, not that he is not a stellar player or anything.

I just read this and a thought popped into my head. If you leave all three setups of pickups on- the guitar would vibrate sympathetically and would make a massive chorus-y sound.Sir Myghin wrote:I don't see the purpose of the other 2 necks in that really, the open chords seem needlessElfDude wrote:Nothing like watching what Steve Vai can do with a triple-neck guitar...

Does anybody remember Michael Angelo and the band Nitro? He played a 4 neck guitar.
Here he is playing along to some prog.

Here's Nitro doing "Freight Train Coming" with Angelo using the 4 neck. It's a music vid, so it's dubbed, but I saw him play it live and for real years ago.
Note the douchey hair-dos.
