Great story, Ogg. Your girls, and indeed your wife, are lucky people. My 'step-dad' was abusive, cruel and mean-spirited and I have the battlescars to prove it, both mental and physical.

This whole thang prompted an evenings discussion with Mrs Ogg, many topics raised, a few of which I'd like to share. I too had a 'step-father' who wasn't a bad man, just inattentive I suppose. As long as you were interested in hunting, shooting and killing small mammals then fine. Alas any subject relating to music, the arts, books even were treated with the contempt they deserved...my brother got on well with him

I've had this debate with Mrs Ogg concerning genetics vs. upbringing. Yes my girls truly are not 'mine' but you only have to look at Tabs, at the way she eats to recognise her gestures derive from my own. Like me she has impeccable manners and would never consider using a fork without a knife(!) unlike Jamey and Josh. Regarding one's negative influence...again I recognise Tabatha's cynicism as my own, like me she does not suffer fools gladly and gets impatient when her friends cant keep up with her. Just watch her seethe when her friends are using our computer

"...um, yep that's me . I could go on and on...Anyway, here's a pic of Tabs I took on her eighth birthday (92), during her 'I want to be a model when I'm older' phase. Stole the pic from her 'myspace' scans, she's just soo vain (like her Mother
). You can tell it's an old pic as part of my vinyl collections on display .

As for "When did y'all leave the maternal bosom? Who needs a therapist?" well, my mom moved away from Zep, my gramps, H, Bear and I when I was 22. And I am currently in counseling! LOL
Really, I think we all have places in our lives, some more than others, but all of us have them, that are messed up. We are all dysfunctional to some point. What do we do about it though? Do we try to give our kids a better life? Do we just whine and complain about how we are so bad off and it isn't our fault but do nothing to get up on our own feet?
I like that everyone here is pretty open about the fact that we all have troubles. BUT I don't see anyone here using it to excuse themselves for staying down. And, I see that people here do well by their kids, trying to give them the best childhood they can.
