That is a standard technique of bargaining...
But the document isn't between Us and Them, so.....I don't get why he would be doing this as a barganing tactic with the EU.
Not trying to be difficult or make a slam, just not getting the whys.

Been thinking that ever since my last post. Glad you said it for me.

Thought more about it overnight. I don't fault the man for putting in "buy American" rules on some of the spending. His claim is that the bill is supposed to stimulate the American economy after all.
What's making me chuckle in this case really has little to do with the president himself. I'm laughing at the media. The man is a charming, well-spoken Chicago politician. Nothing more. Very human. (not a slam... one of my heroes was a well-spoken, charming California politician... but still very human) For over a year the media made him the Messiah. No politician could live up to the expectations that have been set for this guy. And as those expectations are blown, I'll be smiling to myself at those who perpetuated them.

My sentiments exactly, Elf. Not that they matter, mind you..
But I believe that "The Slobbering Love Affair" (Bernie Goldberg has a
bestseller there) is almost over.
That would be a good thing for the benefit of us all.
"A charming, well-spoken Chicago politician. Nothing more. Very human."
YOU NAILED IT.

And it will be good for those who are expecting miracles from this man to see that he is human. It is very possible that he may do this country good, but it doesn't do him or any one else any favors to believe he can just wave a wand or sign a bill or make a speech or whatever and all will be wonderful again. The people who are in that camp will be sorely disappointed. The road Obama has ahead of him is a tough one and it is going to take time and much effort, not just on the part of the president, and there will likely be diffiultires in getteing "there".
I just hope people don't turn on him when they do see he is just human.

It took Obama's run for the presidency to finally get the media to turn on the Clintons... years after the administration ended. I don't think you have anything to worry about there.

As far as I recall, BBO is the only one who was happy he won the election. The rest of us who discussed our choices voted for someone else.

Haha, you should have been around a few months ago. It got quite invigorating if not brutal.
Yes. I, for one, am glad that McCain/Palin did not win. So many of us would be in Europe and Canada now if they were ruining...er, running things.
