Alas, it was I. I played sax and clarinet in junior high school TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO

When David Letterman was on NBC, they had David Sanborn join the band on a semi-regular basis. On viewer mail, someone asked why Letterman was thanked on the liner notes to Sanborn's new album. The following sketch had Sanborn in the studio playing while Letterman was watching. During a pause, Sanborn handed Letterman the saxaphone, and Letterman opened the spit valve and a stream of saliva came pouring out for about 10 seconds.
