Well, the new CD arrived yesterday and within a few minutes of my arrival home my daughter had put it on my iPod for me. I've been able to listen to it twice now, once yesterday and once this morning.
First impressions:
It's not a disappointment, thank goodness. That's always a worry with a new album from a band you like.
Still sounds like them... happy, upbeat electronica with vintage synths and vocoders (square waves abound), but it's definitely not just a remake of the first album. Some of the songs exhibit a little bit of deeper songwriting skill with less predictable chord changes. And others have very catchy melodies.
I'll keep listening and see what develops. On the first album there are tracks which I almost always skip and others that make me go "YEAH!" from the first chord. So far, neither of those types of tracks have emerged on this album. We shall see...
