Thanks.
Professional hockey playoffs for the championship.
8 teams in the West and East play amongst themselves,
two teams at a time, in a 7 game series against the same team.
First team to win 4 games against one team (the team determined by what place they finished in the regular season)
eliminates the other and moves on.
So it goes from 8 teams in each Conference (East and West)
to 4,
to 2, with the winner out of the final two being
the Champion of each conference
(East and West).
The two teams that win each conference then
play for the league championship,
where the winner gets the Stanley Cup trophy (the bottom pic in my sig)
My Edmonton (Canada) Oilers team has won the West by winning 4 games first against Detroit, then 4 games against San Jose, and now 4 wins over Anaheim.
They are waiting to see who the East champ is (Carolina has won 3 games and Buffalo 2) to play for the championship and the Cup.
So if Carolina wins the game tonight, it will be their 4th, and they will be the East champ and play my Oilers for the cup.
If Buffalo wins tonight it will be 3 games each, and they'll play one more game to see who wins their 4th, and be the East champ.
Since there are 16 teams overall, it takes 4 rounds to get a champ, and since it is 4 wins per round to advance, it takes 16 wins overall, to win the
Championship. We have won 12 (4 games in the first three rounds)
and will have to beat either Buffalo or Carolina 4 times to be the Champion.
Hope that helps.
