One of the defensive coaches was videotaping the Jets d- coaches sending in signals so they could match signal with play and gain an advantage.

Also there were some reports of "problems" with certain frequencies during the game. The system is wireless.

I have to jump in here and say this guy over on ESPN Hashmarks echoes what I said when I first heard about this:

There are people on both sides of this argument that really make themselves look like morons.

First off, I am a Patriots fan, have always been and remember the 1-15 seasons. (1989 anyone?) Secondly, some of you other Pats fans, shut the **** up, we got caught violating a league rule, admit it and face the consequences. There is no walking around it, it is black and white.

For you Patriots haters, shut the **** up, you are only piling on because you hate us because we have had a tremendous amount of success in the past and at some point have beaten up on your team. And if you don't think this is something that has been going on for a long time you are stupid and naive. Stealing signals is something that has been happening in the NFL for DECADES. Some people call it gamesmanship, some call it cheating. I call it cheating, and when you get caught you pay the price.

As a Patriots fan, I understand that and agree that in some form or another we will be punished justly. I am man enough as a fan to say, "Yes, my team did something wrong and now they have to pay the price" Before you Patriot-haters start roasting your marshmallows.. you should probably think about what your team is doing... maybe they haven't been caught yet. The NFL is ridiculous with the amount of paranoia on this subject. Why do you think some teams employ three people to send signals in? Or why they put clipboards up to their mouths when calling in signals? Or why they bring in former players for "interviews"? Everyone is looking for an advantage, none of these teams can just "line up and play". There...
Hey dude, I remember the not-so-good NE years..

I still have a Jim Plunkett card from the early 70's....He was one of my heroes growing up along with Sonny Jurgenson and Ken Stabler....

I heard the proposed penalty is loss of a draft choice...if wrong is wrong...WTF kind of punishment is THAT - with THEIR roster?

bwa-bwa-bwhaaat?

From John Clayton of ESPN:

What will be the longterm effect on Belichick and the Patriots?

Although this is embarrassing, you can't take away what this franchise can do. They may have the best team in football. Robert Kraft is one of the league's best owners. The team has three Super Bowl rings and a great chance to get a fourth. Other great organizations have paid penalties for violating league rules. The Broncos lost a draft choice for violating the salary cap with John Elway. The Steelers once had to forfeit a third-round draft choice for working out in shoulder pads in the offseason. The Patriots may lose a draft choice or two. And whether or not the Patriots videotaped the Jets' defensive signals, Belichick won't be any less of a coach.

ME: Also the 49ers won a couple Bowls while being over the cap.
Definately not right, to pay more than any other team to get the best and win. Yet they are still revered for their 5 rings.

If they take away draft choices, that just means more money for free agency. forfeiting a game may hurt them, especially where I see the big three in the AFC slugging it out for homefield advantage towards the end. but even so no big deal, I think they will be punished simply by their legacy being tarnished. but even over the course of time, people will forget... Hell I cannot even remember the last time Vick's name was mentioned..

If Goddell forfeits the game, do you realize what a clusterf**k that will start? I could see this whole season being decided by an arbitrator.

My question is:

How was a video showing what plays were called?

Was someone reading lips?

Was someone giving hand signals?

Hey...Who still gives hand signals in the league? :?

I don't get it.
