One thing I will say for ESL, though, is the drum solo sounds fabulous! Actually, of all the live recordings of "The Rhythm Method," as NEP later named it, the ESL recording is my favorite because IMHO it has better energy, has an almost spontaneous feel to it (as a more jazz influenced drummer, this is really important to me), and is beautifully placed right there in the middle of "YYZ."
I think I'll have to go with the call for DS. Fantastic live album...and "Natural Science" live. Ooh la la!

I wouldn't know as my copy is still on vinyl. I can't afford to totally upgrade having a wife and two children.EndlesslyRocking wrote:Flat and uninspired, for the most part. Poorly mixed and/or produced originally (although the remaster is better).Slaine mac Roth wrote:I wouldn't go for ESL though - I think that is the worst thing Rush have released. I mean, a live album where the tracks are faded in and out.
I think ESL gives the wrong impression of RUSH as distant, uninvolved types. That's not at all what a RUSH concert is like.

The show needed to be about 4 hours longer, I think. I would definitely go for a 12-CD live set over a 4 night period
. . .
I don't own it as an audio set so I can't really comment how the sound stands up alone compared to other releases.

I remember watching in amazement as Geddy sang, played bass, and played the keyboards with his feet. I thought, "Who is this guy???"
