EAS Live National Test in 2 weeks from today
Hey all U.S. By-Torians - FEMA has decided to test the EAS using the national alert code to see how well the system works - the test is Nov 9th at 2pm Eastern.
There's more info here: http://easalert.org/publicresources.php

Yep. Half of us don't even know it's going to happen. Was that intentional?

It reminds me of the old "Outer Limits" TV series "Control Voice" at the
beginning of the show:
"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust
the picture. We are controlling transmission. We will control the
horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can change the focus to a soft
blur - or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next [four minutes], sit
quietly and we will control all that you see and hear."

Don't start none...won't be none.
FEMA was begging the press to start ramping up PSAs 6 MONTHS AGO - I have not heard a whimper about it from the press here.CygnusX1 wrote:Yep. Half of us don't even know it's going to happen. Was that intentional?
The only reason I found out about it was a news piece on the web.
EDIT - even money says that 911 gets overloaded in at least half a dozen states because of this
"zOMG wut happened to my TV/radio?!?? What is this voice I keep hearing??!?"
Sorry - have to disagree there - per EAS test protocol:CygnusX1 wrote:I agree with the poster at the Blaze.
This is NOT a test. Testing can be done late at night.
This is a DEMONSTRATION.
Required monthly tests (RMTs) are generally originated by the primary relay station, a state emergency management agency, or by the National Weather Service (NOAA/NWS) and are then relayed by broadcast and cable stations. RMTs must be performed between 8:30 a.m. and local sunset during odd numbered months, and local sunset to 8:30AM for even months. Received monthly tests must be re-transmitted within 60 minutes from receipt
The primary relay station in this case is going to be the daddy of all of them out of Washington DC.
No problem here....but aren't those EAS regs? Remember, it wasYYZ30 wrote:Sorry - have to disagree there - per EAS test protocol:

formerly known as the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) and
was performed locally.
Is this a rule change, or has it always been that way?
Nonetheless, IMO the timing is VERY suspect.
I mean, the day after elections....the same time that Rush Limbaugh goes on-air...
It stinks to high heaven IFAM.

These are the FCC's regulations regarding the EAS and have been the law of the land for a while now (1993ish?). As far as the EBS tests they were done locally, and I can remember one instance where MA attempted a statewide test and the daisy chain failed miserably and 85% of the stations did not get the signal. The EAS encoder decoder is more reliable as it works off a signal that has to be checked, then rechecked - but the "EAN" signal has never been used (thank God) or tested.CygnusX1 wrote: No problem here....but aren't those EAS regs? Yes, it's the day after the election, also Rush is starting that day, but most if not all stations have a news and weather brief with a few ads at the top of the hour so in essence the stations will lose that break and not much else. The EAS is also activated for weather - this "lull" between hurricane and winter weather is a perfect time to run a full blown test.
EDITED- for clarity

So you think that FEMA, the FCC AND Republican Reps are in on this "charade" also? Sometimes things are exactly what they appear to be.
In this case Siggy I think you and I are going to disagree and not see eye to eye on things no matter what the other says.

Fair enough - I will keep an eye on it.CygnusX1 wrote:No, I understand the facts you posted. I totally get it. It has a definite
purpose.
However, watch the other hand.
EDIT - for the record MA had its statewide RMT yesterday - probably a dress rehearsal for the real deal Holyfield next week. Wonder how many other states are doing this?
