i just heard about this & thought it sounded interesting (don't believe it, just thought it sounded interesting). humans are supposed to be wiped out on December 21st, 2012..i was reading an article on it & it arranged the date as 21-12-2012 .. any self-respecting RUSH fan would recognize 2112, & i was thinking that a well-read man such as Neil may've gotten the idea for the song 2112 from that date. maybe somebody knows where he got his inspiration for the title? idk, i just thought that was pretty interesting!

Actually sweeties, Neil Peart got his inspiration for 2112 from an Ayn Rand Novel (I can never remember the name). It was good despite my brain-freeze over the title... All you well-read Rush fans help us out... probably Anthem or Atlas Shrugged says a very smart friend of mine. :?

ask T!! she knows all about Ayn Rand!

actually, i started reading a bit more on this whole prophecy thing & it's really cool. instead of being annihilated, as i first thought, they say that the earth is supposed to cross over to the other side of the dark rift (in the middle of the milky way) and some sort of change is supposed to take place that'll boost our evolution and we'll become super-human. something like that. if you'd like to read more, go here: http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/1.htm. i found it gave the most info, but just do a google search for 2012 mayan prophecies and you'll definitely find it! makes some good reading!

actually, i heard their chart of eclipses & things was more accurate than ours, so maybe not all hogwash, but as a firm believer in the Christian faith i find this 2012 idea hard to fit into what i've been taught!

Better than ours of the time, perhaps. But we've got pretty good since. :P

From what's been said in this thread, I doubt that what's being discussed here is a Mayan prophecy. It sounds to me more like some silly "new-age" nonsense that borrows one or two minor elements from Mayan mythology. A very brief glance at the web-site confirms that it is, as Myghin said, hogwash.

He may have gotten the idea for the date from the Mayan prophecy. Or from his birthdate, I dunno. And, yes, 2112 is berry similar to Anthem, but was not made so on purpose. I highly suggest every Rushian read anthem anyway. The ending is much happier!

Good I'm not alone when it comes to Christianity then. Sorta seems to be a rarity these days.

On the Anthem note, in english class this year, we read Anthem and when we finished we compared the lyrics of 2112 to the story.

Kazz and Happy, there are other firm believers here. H and I are, Dweeb is, there are others as well.

I do the compare Rand with Rush thing in my homeschool too. Not jsut with Anthem/2112, but we discuss where we see Rush lyrics and Rand's work having similar philosophies when we listen to Rush. We do this type thing with other artists too.
