I hear all sorts of RUSH bashing.
Don't let it bother you.
RUSH is an acquired taste, and most people can't swallow it.
RUSH lyrics require thinking, and not to many people can do that.
RUSH is sophisticated, and most other bands are simply out-classed.
But you know, for us, RUSH is truly awesome and thats all that matters.

Have you considered the possibility that it was a wind up?
Seriously, this stuff gets said all the time. Read any review of RUSH albums. Critics don't take them seriously. They get no respect. Aren't they pretty high on the all-time albums sold list?
Hell how does Richie Valens get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (I know the emotional story, but the guy recorded one album when he was 17!) and RUSH does not?

Neil Peart is, in my opinion, the biggest part of Rush. That is no intended disrespect to Geddy and Alex, who are both amazing musicians and without them Rush just would not be Rush, but I think Neil brings the most to the table. He's arguably the most talented of the bunch, and his lyrics are a big part of why Rush have been so succesful. I think if Neil had never come along after their debut album, Rush would not be as popular as they are today. Those people who made those comments obviously dont know the band, probably arent fans at all.

I don't think that you can say anyone is the biggest part of Rush. OK, Neil moved the band from an excellent, if not totally remarkable, hard rock act into the format we know and love, but he wouldn't have been able to do it without Geddy and Alex.
Rush are a trio - each complimenting each other so well. There is no single element which makes Rush what they are, it is a synthesis of all the components.
