An armed force of volunteers who believe in what they're doing is much more powerful than an armed force filled with those who are compelled to be there by their government. That was why on our initial invasion of Iraq things went as smoothly as they did... because Saddam's forces weren't willing to fight for him.
This bill was introduced by the good old (and I do mean old) southern boy, Ernest Hollings ("Too much Consuuuumin' goin' on out there!") and has no cosponsors. This is a bitter old disempowered democrat's attempt at making Bush look bad with an "If we didn' have a president leadin' us inta all these wars we wouldn't NEED a draft... but here we is!" line of logic.
If this thing ever does make it to a vote, every senator who wants to be re-elected will have to vote against it. This bill has NO popular support and they know it.

Better run and hide from all the vets on this board...Sir Myghin wrote:... Is there anyone else as opposed to armed forces as I am. To work even for them behind the lines , off the front, is to aid the destruction or looming threat to destroy ones fellow man. +
