Bear Creek Park, Surrey, BC

Post by awip2062 »

When I was up in British Columbia last week, I visited a park that was really cool!

It was called Bear Creek Park. Here are some bears hunting salmon in the water park area:

And salmon swimming upstream:

When you push a button, you have to watch out because water squirts out from everywhere and anywhere and just because it isn't squirting out of somewhere at one moment doesn't mean it won't start up out of there the next!

The park has different sections. The water park, ball fields, pool, climbing wall and skate park, trains, and, my favorite, gardens. Here is my godmother, Nancy, in front of the gardens:

This pretty island sits just to the left of the garden entrance:

Families wander the parks and enjoy the beauty.

I liked watching the wildlife.

Vines make such pretty decorations.

I don't know the name of this plant, but it sure is cool!

This old stump is nursery to ferns now, maybe trees later?

This root ball of a fallen tree has become a nursey for a different species of tree:

A jog in that path adds interest.

The paths looked so serene and calming.

Horsetail and berries. I think Wendy will remember these well.

Vine maple, I think:

Sword fern at the feet of an evergreen:

Western Red Cedar, like all trees, does change out its leaves every year. They just have the replacement leaves all ready before dropping the old.

So silky and shiny!

Hey, wow, thanks for taking us on the tour of Bear Creek Gardens.
My favorite is of the orange leaves on the maple. Love that fall colour.
The plant with the large leaves and the strange appendage might be a Monstera but I'll check.

Great pix

Is it just the pic, or is Nancy tiny?
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

Probably Amorphophallus titanum ( Titan Arum)

Another pic of the seeds in a different ripeness stage.

Isn't she so very cute. This pic came from a plant nursery in Taiwan.

I'm kind of amazed that Amorphophallus titanum grows outdoors in BC.
The translation of the botanical name is something we have to go
to the adult bit for though.

Wendy, the plant, to me, looked like it should be growing indoors, but it was nice and big outside. I loved the leaves and that flower was just great! Although, I must admit the pic you put up of it with the lil girl was a show stealer.

As for Nancy, she was 5'2" in her prime, but as she is 72 years old now, she's shrunk a bit.
