My mate Gavin Harrison (of Porcupine Tree)

Post by Ogg »

Oh...My... Ged!

I was browsing for info on the amazing Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison and found 'drummerworld.com'. Not only is this a cool site full of info and stuff but the great man (and many other drummers) actually respond to posts...apparently.
Last night I left a message offering praise and three brief questions, not expecting a reply (if any) for quite some time.
I've just arrived home from work, had a wee browse and he only went and replied didnt he? :-D :-D :-D To cap it all he called me 'Ogg' :-)

HE CALLED ME OGG!!!

I quote:

"Hi Ogg,
thanks for the message. I don't really know the best way to start on double pedals. I try to play short groups of notes like 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (always starting with the right foot). I don't really play 16ths ostinatos - but they are good to practice. Single strokes starting with the right and then starting with the left. Everything I play on the pedals are single strokes.

Yes I did write a column for Rhythm Magazine from 1989 to 1992.

I don't play on Blackfield 2 at all. I played on 2 or 3 tracks of their first album.

Cheers
Gavin

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My respone? "Thanks for taking the time, you've made my day mate" :-)
I called him 'mate' :-)

That is cool- I wont hijack the thread but I did much the same about another band and got the same result- a nice explanation of what they did to get the sound they got for a particular track.

Killer, Ogg! That rocks! \m/

So does this all mean we can walk around saying we know someone who is Gavin Harrison's mate?

Keep us posted on the blossoming friendship?

That was what Homer said right after Red Barclay had been declared dead.
