I have been looking up some information about it. My father hasn't been feeling well and some symptoms he told my mum were some for prostate cancer. I won't know till Monday when I take him. Are any of the by-tor guys familiar with it or know of men who have it?

Hey, RL. I don't have any "real" information for you on this, sorry... All I can say is that my ex-father in law was diagnosed with prostate cancer about 10 years ago and he had a snap easy treatment and all is well.

My father in law had surgery to remove part of his prostate, had a relapse, went in for more chemo and has been cancer free since.
I do not know symptoms however.

Prostate cancer usually doesn't cause symptoms in its early stages. Between 60% and 70% of men who are older than 80 who have prostate cancer have no symptoms.
When there are symptoms, they may include:
* Having difficulty starting your urine stream. This is called hesitancy.
* Having a weaker than normal urine stream.
* Being unable to urinate at all.
* Having to urinate often.
* Feeling that your bladder is not emptying completely when you urinate.
* Having to get up at night to urinate. This is called nocturia.
* Having pain or a burning feeling when you urinate. This is called dysuria.
* Having blood in your urine. This is called hematuria.
* Having blood in your semen. This is called hematospermia.
* Having a deep pain in your lower back, abdomen, hip, or pelvis.
My father has bled when he urinates. He complains that he is tired and has pain in the hips. Also, he used to have a brother who died from prostate cancer because he ignored it and it was too late.

I hope it's just an enlargement and wish him the best. That's HIGHLY treatable.....
....and kudos to your dad YYZ....may he kick ass for eons.

I am not sure how I will take care of him. With my mum, I knew what to do. She survived uterine cancer and pulled through from hernia problems. Father and I aren't exactly close. In fact, he makes life miserable for anyone who comes near him. He was more of a fool for ignoring the symptoms and would snap at my mother when she offered to call the doctor to schedule an appointment. If this is the worse, he has only to blame himself.

Understood, but good or bad...he's the only father you're gonna have.

If you get it fairly early it isn't bad. Hopefully your dad doesn't have it but if he does hopefully it is still early stage.

My father had it and given his age and progression he had it treated with radiation. Five years later he is cancer free.
There are many treatmants and each is specific to the man's health, age and lifestyle.

This has been pretty helpful. I hope it won't be bad news but if it's what we are worried about, HOPEFULLY, it'll be in the early stage and he'll be ok.
