One for the Brits here.
Sadly this great British character passe away yesterday after three years of ill health.
I always enjoyed his programmes about the Industrial "Golden age" of Britain, and enjoyed his earthy, unpretentious approach to it. He also clearly loved his topic and would talk with boundless enthusiasm.
He was also a bit mad, as evidenced by his expoits in dodging collapsing chimneys...
One of lifes good guys...RIP Fred

I'm sorry to hear of his death, Fridge. As an ignorant American that's all I can offer. Was he a news commentator?
I'd love to hear more about him.

Oh, WOW! Thanks, Fridge. The guy sounds like he was a total pisser (good thing in America) and a real character!
If I may ask what is a "bleach?"
My truelove is from Ireland but I realize (through Schu) that so much Scottish goes by here too.

Can you tell me the names of any of the programs in which he appeared? I'd like to find out if I can see him on the BBC America channel sometime.

that's sad....
and bleach is like a really strong detergent that you can clean nearly everything with....it can also be used to whiten clothes but is strong enough to destroy the clothes as well....it can burn the skin a wee bit when left on for too long as well..
I used to like watching his programmes on chimneys...
