Taliban kill Canadian soldier in Afghanistan
Tue May 6, 2008 6:36pm EDT
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Taliban insurgents killed a
Canadian soldier in a clash in the southern Afghan province of
Kandahar on Tuesday, the Canadian military said.
It said another Canadian soldier was wounded in the incident in the
Zhari district to the west of the city of Kandahar, the scene of
frequent gunfights between NATO-led forces and Taliban militants.
The injured soldier was listed in stable condition.
Canada has some 2,500 troops in Afghanistan, mainly based around
the Taliban's former de-facto capital of Kandahar, and has sustained
one of the highest casualty rates among international forces in the country.
The death of Cpl. Michael Starker, of 15 Field Ambulance, on Tuesday
brings to 83 the number of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan
since Ottawa dispatched troops in 2001.
Starker, who worked as a paramedic in Calgary, Alberta, began his
deployment in Afghanistan late last year, Calgary Emergency Medical
Services said.

Ack, I had a feeling it wasn't as simple as the media was playing it.

This is serious
I don't usually pass on political advice or info; however we had all
better wake up and start paying attention!
This morning, Pakistani Taliban Minister of Migration, Mohammad Omar,
warned the United States that if military action against Iraq
continues, Taliban authorities will cut off America 's supply of
convenience store managers. And if this action does not yield
sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell Computer
customer service reps, AOL Help, Motel 6 managers, and liquor store
cashiers. Who knew it would come to this??
It's getting ugly.

U.S. Cites Big Gains Against Al-Qaeda
Group Is Facing Setbacks Globally, CIA Chief Says

Less than a year after his agency warned of new threats from a resurgent al-Qaeda, CIA Director Michael V. Hayden now portrays the terrorist movement as essentially defeated in Iraq and Saudi Arabia and on the defensive throughout much of the rest of the world, including in its presumed haven along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

This was shown on a strategy site I access, but you KNOW that thisElfDude wrote:Less than a year after his agency warned of new threats from a resurgent al-Qaeda, CIA Director Michael V. doesn't sell papers, so the NYT and LAT don't have any use for it.
But yeah Elf, they're (a-Q) 98% exterminated there, admitting defeat
within their own leadership network, and most (that are left) are
getting smart and leaving the dark side.
