pots, new switch, new pickup for the bridge slot but not changing the
tone cap as I am happy with it. I am going to re-solder the lot - I want
to do this because I want to make sure it's done properly. Don't forget I
was having all sorts of issues with the switch and the pickups cutting in
and out.
I like that move. I'm going to re-solder the works while I have mine
open too. Gonna paint the pickup skirts white while I'm at it.
I have a friend that plays and he had a problem with his P/U switch. It's
not a 5-way (typical Strat switch). It's a SPDT (single pole double throw)
wafer switch. He is a heavy smoker, so I asked him if I could look at it.
(I know from personal experience that nicotine gets on EVERYTHING and
gums it up.)
Sure enough, the switch contacts were glazed and sticky from nicotine. A
little alcohol on a Q-tip and some FINE emery cloth took care of that.
The screws holding the contact insulation wafers together were loose too,
so I lined those wafers up and re-tightened 'em while I was at it.
He's back to shreddin' and I got a free dinner outta the deal, so it's all good.
