I've said it before, but I'll say it again. With each listen I like it more.

Hmm, I remember you 'wcp' :-) . My heads been all over the place recently so recollection is rather vague at the moment.
I've been enjoying the album for two weeks the now (apart from a brief spell) and it's still growing. I think the album's great.

In reference to the quote below, as I was mowing my lawn on saturday listening to the album I came upon a realization about Geddy's multi-layer vocal harmony...It is Geddy's way for compensating. Compensating for what you ask...for not being able to play the keyboard. Every time Geddy does a harmony in the background, it is a logical place to have a keyboard part. Just an observation, but I think the theory is valid.
ElfDude wrote:Speaking of vocals, Geddy's been doing something lately that he really overdid (IMO) on this album... the incessant layering of harmony vocals. That can be a good thing for an effect, but when it goes on and on through song after song it gets old. I'm sure Ged would disagree with me.

I remember in an interview when VT came out that Geddy said exactly that. They were trying to get away from keyboards and go back to the roots of a 3-piece band but that the vocal layering added texture to a song where a keyboard may have in the past.

Just one mroe reason I expect to enjoy these songs even more when they're performed live.

So, eh, does that mean I'm the only one that actually *likes* the harmonies? Meh. I grew up listening to CSN, must be an inherited thing.
And did I mention I finally bought it the other day?
Well, if I didn't, I guess I just did.
Gotta give the guys their due $13.99

I did too, Med! Actually when I FIRST heard VT I thought, "Man this sounds like CSN rocking OUT!"

Well, it's now official. The atheist left loves the new album. There's a review of it on the Huffandpuffington Post of all places.

Whether I have been taken on or not, this right-wing religious hate-mongor still likes Snakes and Arrows.

Lol, not just me then, good. And you gotta admit, Ged does good considering he's only singing with himself.

Here is a good review from (of all places) the Christian Science Monitor. Obviously, the reviewer has his own views on music, but I'll settle for a 'B' anyday.
Rush ? Snakes & Arrows (Atlantic): Given that it's taken five years to release an album of new material, the Canadian power trio may want to rethink its name. In the meantime, the band has clocked up more miles on the road than a U-Haul fleet, significantly shaping lyricist Neil Peart's global perspective on current events. "Wide-eyed armies of the faithful/ from the Middle East to the Middle West/ pray, and pass the ammunition," he laments in "The Way the Wind Blows." A few songs on this otherwise strong set aren't as hummable as one would wish, but Peart, a drummer you can set a metronome to, has never sounded more vibrant going toe to toe with dextrous bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee and inventive guitarist Alex Lifeson on the ominous uncoiling spirals of "Spindrift." Also superb: "The Main Monkey Business," an instrumental that hurtles into fifth gear. Perhaps the band's name is an apt one after all. Grade: B
