That is a creek in the rainforest. Everything is green there and the moss drips off the branches of the trees. When the sun is out, as it was the day I took that pic, the green reflects off the water in the creek and if you are near the water it reflects off your face too. SO pretty!

In the rain forest, trees fall down and baby trees start their lives living off the old dead tree. Then the dead tree rots away and the new tree is left there with its roots in the air. Here is a pic showing a younger tree with its roots going down to the ground around the tree it started its life on and the decaying of the "nurse" tree.

That reminds me of some bayou pics too.

Cool! I was gonna say, they looked like Cypress trees to me, and that's about the only place you find them...Very interesting phenom...

I'm planting some Paw Paw trees this year...They're called "poor mans' bananas" here, and grow these little banana-like fruits...they look just like little stubby pygmy bananas, and you can only find them by a body of water like a creek or river...Only thing is, you only have a 2-week season to pick and eat 'em, so it's a natural treat...

We have an orchard with apples and plums and fig. My old guitarist has a lemon tree he is going to grow in his greenhouse. We don't have any fun exotics though.

Hey, did you cut down any trees like this one, Siggs?

Is that the Hoh Rainforest, t? I guess it can't be if it is East of you. :P I remember visiting there after visiting family and reading about/looking at the "nurse logs" and "nurse trees" and it is sooo beautiful there! :-D

That is one of the largest we have in the rainforest, but there are several that come near to it. I think that is a Douglas Fir, if I am not mistaken. I know it is not a Sycamore though, as they aren't out at the Hoh.
