Cool stuff, Kyle!
A six string would not have been my first choice either. I don't really see myself using that high C string either. But this was an attempt at helping out a friend in need. And the truth is, I'm already starting to bond with it. Looking forward to actually using it for something.

True enough elf, I never used to think highly of 5 strings either then on a whim I carvined one... I don't think I would go back now. So maybe if I played a 6 I would learn it, almost snagged that free one but hesitated for a moment and missed my chance, own fault there but it has a better home I wager.ElfDude wrote:Cool stuff, Kyle!

As for that DVD starting breaking into it today (finally had time) and wow, some very good right hand exercises right off the bat, lots of syncopated slap/pop exchanges and the like. Something I've not spent too much time on bass for but used to be very important on sax coming around. The learning curb is fairly high I would assume if you hadn't slapped before however, but they do give many exercises and you could acquire speed as you practice. I haven;'t even started too much on the left hand slapping / muting techniques in it and that is what I really wanted it for. He plays pretty quickly after doing it slowly sometimes and gives me a run for my money. Very good dvd, quite thorough explanations. If you ever want a low down on slap, the first 1/2 hour is very informative, and thats not even the complex stuff. The left hand notation is mostly octaves and simple for the first bit, gets a bit more complex later but I think it is more about the techniques than the notes in this thing. Guess that makes sense for an instructional video.
Anybody watch the ZZ Top concert on VH1CL over the weekend?
Billy Gibbons hasn't lost a lick. Although he or Dusty can't hit the high
notes anymore, the music still kicks ass.
He blistered his digits on "Heard it on the X" and the blues were really
sweet.
Billy is the consummate showman. Watch and learn....

It was totally LIVE Bro. Frank was steady as a clock.Walkinghairball wrote:Was the drums live or did they play "Canned drums" for Frank?
I lost tons of respect for him on the lousy sync job he did in the Superbowl a few years back...............(Playing after the music stopped).
No I didn't watch the VH1CL show.
The green golf balls he used for cymbal wingnuts were cool.

Still can't to this day.
Thick chunky bottom isn't gonna help ya.
Lead pickup, max pot volume.
all ya gotta do is hold the pick close to the tip, with your first
and middle pick fingers in an imaginary "x"
strike the note with pick AND fingertips at the same time.
you'll be a pinchin' in no time!
Rock the hell outta THAT Bro. Work on the tone later...
Pop quiz when I come back tomorrow...
