His age is debated, but if '42 was his birth year (I think that is it from when he first recorded an album, but I don't know) that makes him one year older than my mom.Big Blue Owl wrote:Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona on July 10, 1942 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA)
Wow. 56. Heheh...I see you just doubled his years up

I was just informed by one of my coworkers that Dio is satanic.. I guess I kind of always knew that, but chose to ignore it.. I guess another look at the album Holy Diver kind of confirms it.. I was told the two fingers <-- like this but turned the other way is satanic as well..
oh well
Happy Birthday anyway Ronnie James Dio!!!

Happy 2015!
I guess I would ask the co-worker to define "satanic". I mean, if you define it as anyone who is not a member of one's own brand of Christianity, then yeah, he is. But as satan worshippper? LOL
I love the Holy Diver album!
Murray (the giant in the picture) totally rocks! He's a good guy, by the way, if you ever read Murr's story. But why would we do that? Just call him a demon or satan figure and be done with him, eh?
Know what's kinda odd? Dio is Italian for "god". He got the name from a mobster in a movie.
He claims to be a Buddhist. I'll go with that.
According to Ronnie, the horns he popularized are called by many "The Evil Eye". He says he remembers his grandmother using them to ward off evil when he was a child.

Never heard any of his music pre-Rainbow, Bro? You should check it out. Totally blew me away first time I heard a song by Elf! lol Good stuff, his voice was young and strong and I dig hearing him play bass, but, well, honky-tonk stylin' piano! *gasp!* LOL I'd love to own some of the Ronnie and the Prophets tunes, but when he released his anthology of his own music across the ages Elf was as far back as he included.
