Ahem.
Music needs to serve the song just as Neil says. It don't matter if you shred or don't. I hate to play 4 on the floor kick drum, but if that is what serves the song best I do it................with freakin gusto.
And there is tons of drum thingers out there I have not learned.

if you can keep time without playing too fast or slow you beat 99% of the other drummers out there

A friend of mine was recently asked to redo some drum tracks another drummer had laid down. He did and when he was done, the band realized they have to redo all the instruments. The other drummer moved ahead or behind the click slightly through the songs and as the other instruments were playing with his track, everything really sounded horrid once my friend re-recorded the drums keeping time properly.

its near impossible to rerecord drums without everything else, our drummer is horrid for keeping the same time everytime we play. I should get him an in ear metronome.

My bass player showed up last night with an 80's LB60 that he picked up at a pawn shop. Apparently the shop was having trouble selling it (because of the color, they said) and let him take it home for $150! 
Sorry about the blurry photo, I was in a hurry.
He was baffled by the stereo thing and had purchased a Y adapter so he could run both outputs to his amp simulatneously. Heh. We showed him how it worked.
Anyway, other than belt buckle rash it's in excellent condition. I fell in love with it right away. He's a realtor, so he's having a bit of a tough time lately and was saying, "I dunno if I can keep it", so I begged him to give me first chance if he decides to sell it.

Ah, scales and Modes..........it has been a while, but I can tell you when yer playing the wrong note in them. LOL
Can't tell a G chord from a F chord, but I sure can tell when it's wrong.

hit the right ones!

Sig, the band I play in currently had a bass player who did that. Any questions as to why I am the new bass player . The guitarist is very creative with scales and complimenting riffs with similar different runs (not always even the same chords but still make the old ones enough) Without good players all around he was dead in the water as the other idiot would just play tonnes of bad notes. (I still use his amp as he has never picked it up. I have been playing with them since september) shh
