I have a Strat knockoff that Im going to dismantle and turn into a single bridge humbucker guitar. I don't like the fact the 5 way switch has worn out and would rather spend the $30 or so on a decent humbucker and wire it myself.ElfDude wrote:I know, some people love single pickups. Rock on!
Well, come to think of it, I didn't put the tremelo bars in for the pic.
What up Z?
Hey, those switches are pretty tough. Get the contacts aligned to "make" properly,
then take some WD40 to it. Work it a few times, wipe off the excess, solder it
back in (or repair it connected - I've done it both ways) and you should be golden.
Just for good measure, re-solder the terminals. A solder crack is hard
to see and will LOOK fine, but fool you into thinking the switch is bad.
It won't act "broken" until you plug up and put a load on it.
And lastly......be sure ALL THE GROUNDS ARE BONDED! (attached)
(No sense in doing the "sixty-hertz-shuffle" and getting electrocuted
after a repair job.)
75% of guitar electrical problems are loose or broken grounds.
Good luck on that re-work. It's really satisfying when you're done.
Ry Cooder would be proud of ya. He would take knock-off pawn
shop guitars and make 'em nasty, then record with 'em.

Cool. I'm a little biased to PRS pickups now, but I heard that EMGYYZ30 wrote:In my first axe I dropped a set of EMG's (non endorsed ones) in and I loved those...never tried the SD's before.CygnusX1 wrote:Sweet. You buyin' Seymour pickups?
I put some hot old-school Seymour double 'buckers in my
Kramer....muh-ney.
"Gilmour" strat-type single pickups are pretty clean and solid.

Gentlemen - I give you the JUST-RELEASED Gibson ES355
ALEX LIFESON Model:
https://sweetwater.com/store/detail/Lifeson355LTD/
I saw it in the new AMS catalog, but they have no listing online yet.
This is from sweetwater.com
Same git, same price as AMS, 'cept AMS throws in a Gibson hard case.
Buddy, for 4,000 bones, they'd BETTER offer a case.
