OK, I do own 2 Dio albums. Holy Diver and Lock up the Wolves.
I got Holy Diver cuz Vivian Campbell plays guitar.
I got LUTW cuz I wanted to hear Rowan Robertson. The kid who got one over on David Coverdale when DC entered the studio that Dio was recording in, and joked about RR's age. RR came back with something like "I'm as old as you would like to be".

Being an Ozz Sabb fan, I had trouble getting into any replacements. It didn't seem right. Ozzy? Replaced? Nah.
I lost a nut laughing when Ozzy was quoted as saying something like "How can a 5' midget sing about the Devil?".

Dio has a fine voice, one of the best, but his mistake, in my book, was to try to replace Ozzy.

I don't think Ronnie considered himself a replacement for John; just the new singer for Sabbath. I never thought of Sabbath with John and Sabbath after John as the same thing. I mean, the whole character changed when John left.

As far as Ronnie and John go, Ronnie wrote the song King Of Rock and Roll with John in mind, so whether John respects Ronnie or not, Ronnie does respect John.

As for myself, I respect each man for different reasons.
