Just recently the guy in Afghanistan who converted to Christianity, it sounded like to me the whole country wanted him executed. and not just the extremists either. What other modern day religion states execution as the punishment for switching faiths? I mean the Catholics are whacked half the time, but they will not hang me for switching to Lutheran.

Why do you specify "modern day"? Islam is 1384 years old. What was Christianity doing in 1384AD?
How old was Judaism when (as recorded in the OT) the Israelites killed their neighbours, ostensibly for being unbelievers?

If Islam is 1384 years old..should you then not ask 'what christianity was doing in 622AD...?
I'm drunk and probably talking shit lol

I know I'm not soups, and he said it, but it seems the obvious answer is because it's what's happening right now that's impotant. Modern Germans don't need to apologize for WW2. Modern American whites don't need to apologize for slavery. And modern Islamic jihadists are trying to kill as many "swine" and "apes" as they can.

You said it better than I ever could Elfie... The point is many attrocities have occured through time and you would think civilization would learn by its mistakes. Islam is still living in the 1300's.

and in the 1300s (by the Christian calendar), Christians were living in the 1300s. You gotta compare like with like. Crusaders did not learn from the Muslims about tolerance. It was they, not the Muslims they displaced, who massacred the Jews in Jerusalem.

yes you are right but who really cares what happened in the 1300's. I love history but people are dying now. And for what? I am sure God has not asked anyone to kill in his name. I am not a very religious person but I am pretty sure of that. It is time to evolve. and Israel is just as much to blame for the situation in the Middle East. You would think after being victims of the holocaust they would be a bit more tolerant.

A discussion of the why's and where's and who's of the crusades would be interesting, but what does it have to do with the here and now that this thread is discussing?
I'm probably completely missing you point, and I apologize. It looks to me like your point is something along the lines of, "We're wrong to point our fingers at Islamo-extremist attacks now because our ancestors behaved badly 700 years ago. We deserve what we're getting." But that can't be your point because that doesn't make any sense and you're a smart guy.
Maybe you can straighten me out... I'll try hard to pay attention and get it right this time.

I'm not trying to argue that "we deserve what we're getting." But I think it is wrong to criticise others for behaviour that we ourselves engage in. (And by "we" I mean our society rather than us as individuals.)

you mean used to engage in, like Elfie says thats like blaming white society today for slavery. Islam today is as outdated as my family owning a slave plantation today.
