you know when we bought our house, we were going to use VA, went through all of the hassle to get the cert of eligibility and my DD 214, ended up going FHA, for some reason we got a better deal.. damn veterans affairs, I went to one of their hospitals, once I might add. 14 years ago... busted shoulder and in pain and all thedoctor cared about was the last time I had a drink. I think he was from Pakistan or something. never again

I was an Electricians' Mate 2nd Class(EM2)..in from '78 to '84....I'm a DC native, but I grew up in VA...I put all WEST COAST bases on my "dream sheets", but I wound up...you guessed it...in VIRGINIA...Got stuck in Little Creek and Norfolk for just about the whole time...
never made WESTPAC *sigh* ...did 2 Med deploys, 2 Carribbeans (SWEET duty...Met Lerxt in Barbados too! he was on vacation and I was on liberty...ran into him on the street in Bridgetown..he was with his first wife then) and mineswept a little during "a conflict in Latin America at the time, and not OURS"...got lucky towards the end of my hitch and got put on a minesweeper in Mayport FL...Finally, I got to fly home on a hop from GITMO Cuba...made it to Norfolk in two hours on a C-130...sh-weeeeet !
I got some TAD on the Nimitz as well...what a wake-up call...I reported on deck and asked where the electric shop was...the watch said: "which one...we have four" YIKES!!! man, that was a trip....they had gang-bangers on board wearing colors and everything...put it to ya this way...they KNEW if you didn't belong....hahaha
