Oh (gasping for breath) this one you have to see! The whole movie is magical from beginning to end! It's Depp's masterpiece as he brings the backstory of Peter Pan alive. I was charmed and all my disbelief suspended from the moment he turns his Newfoundland into "the grrreat dancing bearrrrr, Porthos," for the children's amusement in the park. For a moment, here and there, you see shades of his performance as Roux in Chocolat (another film to set female hormones a-twitter), but there is so much more DEPPth in his becoming J. M. Barrie.

The most delightful moment (of many) is when he and the children are playing pirates in the woods at the summer house. For a flickering, snickering moment he becomes Jack Sparrow again. His eyes sparkle at the camera and you know that he is embracing the magic of that dread pirate and wants us in on the joke.

Alas, I don't want to give away more of the plot, but be sure to carry Keenex! It will have to age a while before I know if it will last, but I think it may be my all-time favorite movie.
