It was strictly protocol stuff...not greeting Her Majesty properly, Michelle
not curtseying, giving Her Majesty a MP3 Player or whatever, standing on
Her Majesty's wrong side, etc.... just minor whoopsies.

I'm sure that the Obamas aren't the only ones who have committed them.

It just happened, and people caught it, and said "hey, that's not the way
WE would be received."

But hey, hindsight is aways perfect, right? Theryago.

They'll do better next time.

This story is from my neck of the woods:

Actor Duvall Enters Battle to Save Virginia Battlefield

By STEVE SZKOTAK ? 1 day ago

LOCUST GROVE, Va. (AP) ? Academy Award-winning actor Robert Duvall
has fired a verbal salvo against plans to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter
near a Virginia Civil War battlefield where Confederate Gen. Robert E.
Lee first fought the Union's Ulysses S. Grant.

Duvall, who is a descendant of Lee, said he will help preservationists
in "chasing out" the retailer from a site near the Wilderness Battlefield.

At a news conference on Monday, Duvall said he has no grudge against
Wal-Mart, but believes in capitalism - coupled with sensitivity.

Duvall was joined by Congressmen Peter Welch of Vermont and Ted Poe
of Texas, representing states that lost many lives at the Wilderness battle
145 years ago.

The Wal-Mart proposal must first be approved by Orange County
supervisors.

Siggy's take: The reporter failed to mention that Wilderness is
still considered to be Gen. Robert E. Lee's greatest military victory.

The Union Army of the Potomac was nearly exterminated.

In other words, the South won at Wilderness and Chancellorsville -
but lost the war.

I got this from Fox News so that somebody might actually read it. Hey, check it out! They didn't call him a fat-ass or a faggot or anything! :)

Actor Dom DeLuise died last night in a Los Angeles hospital, Jeffrey Lane, an agent for Burt Reynolds confirmed to FOX News Tuesday.

The actor, famous for his roles in ?The Cannonball Run,? ?Blazing Saddles? and ?Spaceballs,? passed away in his sleep at around 6 p.m.

He was 75 years old.

Reynolds expressed sadness at the news of his friend passing, telling FOX News in an email " I was thinking about this the other day. As you get older, and start to lose people you love, you think about it more, and I was dreading this moment. Dom always made you feel better when he was around and there will never be another like him. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much."

DeLuise was born in Brooklyn in 1933 to John and Vincenza DeLuise. He graduated from the Manhattan School of the Performing Arts before breaking into the off-Broadway circuit in the 1960s.

He later established a solid comedic career, appearing on several variey shows like "The Garry Moore show" and "The Entertainers."

He made his film debut in the Sidney Lumet drama "Fail-Safe" in 1964, though he is best known for his roles as film director Buddy Bizarre in "Blazing Saddles" and the all-star variety project "The Cannonball Run," in which he starred with Reynolds.

In addition to his film, television and theater work, he also established himself as a celebrity chef, writing several cookbooks as well as children's books in the 1990s.

Because of his passion for food, the actor battled obesity throughout much of his life, his weight reaching as much as 325 pounds at one point. For years, he resisted the efforts of family members and doctors who tried to put him on various diets. He finally agreed in 1993 when he needed hip replacement surgery and his doctor refused to perform it until he lost 100 pounds.

He and his family enrolled at the Duke University Diet and Fitness Center in Durham, N.C., and DeLuise lost enough weight for the surgery, although he gained some of it back afterward.

On the positive side, his love of food resulted in two successful cookbooks, 1988's "Eat This ? It Will Make You Feel Better!" and 1997's "Eat This Too! It'll Also Make You Feel Good."

At his Pacific Palisades home, DeLuise often prepared feasts for family and friends. One lunch began with turkey soup and ended with strawberry shortcake. In between, were platters of beef filet, chicken breast and sausage, a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs and a saucer of lettuce.

He strongly resembled the famed chef Paul Prudhomme and joked in a 1987 Associated Press interview that he had posed as Prudhomme while visiting his New Orleans restaurant, K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen.

In 2006, he suffered a brief health scare when he collapsed in his home. His health records were also subject to public scrutiny, after they were involved in a very public story about hospital staff snooping through the confidential files of celebrity patients.

He is survived by his wife Carol, three sons Peter, Michael and Dave, and three grandchildren, Riley, Dylan and Jake.

LOVED that guy.
The scene from Hot Stuff where he gets hold of a bunch of weed from an old rich couple, he smokes it and laughs hysterically forever. Makes me weep with laughter every time.

I liked him as "Pizza the Hut" in "Spaceballs." :headbang:

He'll definitely be missed.

I, as a born-again fat guy, held him in the highest regard.

My favorite Dom quote:

"Some people talk, and some people eat."

Glenn Beck Kicks ACORN Spokesman Off Set
For Accusing Him Of Racism

posted at 8:10 pm on May 6, 2009 by Allahpundit

It happened during a commercial break, but there?s no reason to doubt
Beck?s telling the truth. The last time this tool was on, Megyn Kelly had to
cut his mike to be able to speak over him.

In fact, every time he?s on Fox, it turns into a trainwreck of filibustering
and guests talking over each other. I understand why they continue to
book him ? angering the host is great for ratings ? but why, given his
astounding Edwards-esque unctuousness, does ACORN continue to send
him as their rep?

It?s practically an exercise in self-sabotage. I?m sitting here numb with
horror at the possibility that he might be the most likable guy they have.

I split the clip in two. If you want the full interview, watch both.

If all you want is Beck?s indignation at being accused of racial phobia,
stick with number two.

Kitsap Bank will cover all of Westsound's deposits
By CHARLIE BERMANT
Port Orchard Independent Staff Writer
Today, 11:46 AM ? UPDATED

Kitsap Bank will assume all of the deposits and bank operations of Westsound Bank of Bremerton at 9 a.m. May 11. At that time, nine Westsound locations will open as branches of Kitsap Bank, and will conduct business as usual.

?Kitsap Bank will assume all deposits of Westsound Bank regardless of the amount,? Kitsap Bank VP Shannon Childs said Saturday morning. ?So even if deposits exceed the $250,000 insured limit they are protected.?

A public announcement about the action was due to occur Saturday at noon.

Kitsap Bank President James Carmichael said that ?no one in our communities will be negatively impacted and none of Westsound?s depositors are in jeopardy.?

As of the close of business Friday, the FDIC became the receiver of Westsound Bank?s deposits, after the State of Washington Department of Financial Institutions declared Westsound closed, citing inadequate capital and liquidity. The FDIC moved quickly to protect all non-brokered depositors through a purchase and assumption agreement with Kitsap Bank.

With this transaction, Kitsap Bank?s assets, currently in excess of $820 million, will climb to over $1 billion. It puts the bank into the top 600 of banks in the nation in terms of size, and increases its market share to 23 percent in Kitsap County, and 17 percent on the Kitsap/Olympic Peninsula.

Until systems can be converted to Kitsap Bank, Westsound customers will continue to do business as usual at one their current branches. The decision whether to close Westsound Bank branches in proximity to Kitsap Bank locations as well as the disposition of any duplicated employees are yet to be determined, according to Childs.

?This is a difficult time for our community, as we cope with the loss of a local financial institution,? Carmichael said. ?But I want to assure everyone that Kitsap Bank?s and Westsound?s dedicated teams of banking professionals will work diligently to make this a smooth transition for our new customers. As we complete the conversion in a few months, our Westsound customers will enjoy enhanced

Westsound does not have ATMs at its branches. Customers, however, can immediately use their debit cards to withdraw cash at Kitsap Bank ATMs without a transaction fee, according to Childs. Westsound Bank customers will not be able to conduct online banking transactions throughout the weekend, aside from the ability to view their accounts.

Customers seeking immediate information may visit www.kitsapbank.com or www.fdic.gov for more details, or call Kitsap Bank?s Customer Service Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (360) 876-3644 or (800) 283-5537.

The FDIC toll-free information line for this bank closure is (800) 830-4735.

I'm glad I still have my money (FDIC Insurance and all). I tried to see my account so I could balance my checkbook and although the article states one could see one's own account I cannot. I get:
