To clarify - It is mentioned that shipping companies ARE ALLOWED to hold
weapons, but they choose not to for security reasons (read: costs), which
is totally absurd.

Here is another reason that these ships like this do not carry weapons, as a rule.

Mutiny.

No kidding. The logic is that if you are at sea for a while, you may begin to think that your captain is a buttmunch and you are heavily armed, there is a chance that you'll flip out and go Rambo on everyone.

What we need is to be armed to the teeth and as soon as we see these smeg-bags racing toward the ship, unleash the fury on them before they can know what is happening and launch their grappling hooks. No mercy for these dirt devils. If we don't wipe them out with surgical strikes we should at least surround Somalia with a band of steal until they surrender as international prisoners (their horrible country will make a delicious prison) or die of starvation. I think we should turn that entire area into a glass covered parking lot.

I am pleased at this outcome, and in our President. A high and tight salute is in order to all involved.
