Okay, my computer lets me read it, just couldn't on the phone. I've read it now and some thoughts:

1% of the bill may be earmarks and good may (or may not) be done by the other 99%, but when 1% is 5.5 BILLION, why should we not complain?

There are SO many different things in this bill. From negotiations with foreign governments, limits on using U.S. troops in U.N. missions, protections for government whistleblowers, a congressional claim of authority over the spending of money already approved by Congress and congressional demands that the administration submit budget requests in certain forms to giving money to bridges and school refurbishings and on and on. It will always be impossible to pass bills that don't have pork in them if we continue to allow bills to be a hodge-podge of items. I think we should stick with one issue to a bill. There might be a variety in the bill but everything in there would need to be dealing with the same issue, like, this should have been all spending projects that will help the nation. Then another on negotiations with foreign governments, another on the limits on using U.S. troops in U.N. missions, et cetera.

Glenn Beck's "The 912 Project" Website Crashes From Hits

The 912 Project response crashes Glenn Beck web server
by Gary Wood
Salt Lake Nonpartisan Examiner

March 14, 1:43 AM

Even before the thousands attending larger events across the country
could get home to see what Glenn Beck's new website was all about - the
servers were overloaded.

He announced to his viewing audience, about half way through his one
hour show, "We bought the most expensive servers we could for this
project and you have taken them down." With his usual smile and flare
for sounding 'schmoish' Beck pressed on with the show.

Viewers and loyal radio listeners had been teased for weeks about the
upcoming show as a part of Beck's 'We Surround Them' initiative.

During the show he had many moving guests, including the author of
'The Lone Survivor,' Marcus Luttrel, the only survivor of his Navy Seal
Team, saved by villagers in a hostile nation.

Integrity, courage, and honor were among the themes discussed early on,
and audiences were moved.

Beck sat around a table with some friends, which is his challenge to all
those who were watching. He encouraged everyone to gather around
their kitchen tables frequently to study the history of our country.

His studio audience received a set of books to get them started,
including 'The 5000 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World' by
W. Cleon Skousen. In this book, Skousen outlines 28 founding principles
which Beck has boiled down to 9 along with 12 values.

Why the focus on 9 and 12?

That is what the viewers found out about early on and that is what
brought down the servers.

First he let everyone know the connection: "On September 10th, 2001
many people were burying their heads and moving through life. On
September 11th, 2001, many were living in fear. Yet, on September 12th,
2001, we came together and just got things done because we knew what
to do. We didn't need the government to tell us what to do; it was in our
hearts."

With that connection to the date, 9-12, he revealed his new website
designed for people to socially join together. Joining together is a major
platform for success and survival.

He had an assistant (Cyg: Assistant? He could have at least mentioned
that it was Patti Ann Browne! She's been a anchor on Fox News for
YEARS! - and she's pretty hot, too)
on the computer talking about
people already viewing and interacting on www.The912Project.com.

It was the end of the line for the servers, until tomorrow that is. In the
meantime, many are flocking to the citizen begun social networking site
on www.Ning.com entitled 'We Surround Them, USA.'

Perhaps tomorrow, Beck's site will be up and running. But, with or
without it, he's sparked a fire; and, according to Chuck Norris: "It's up to
us to turn it into a forest fire."

Just a follow-up:

I tried to log on to "912 Project" just 10 minutes ago, and it's still having
server issues.

Wow.

I swear to you all, I was just about to make a positive comment about
Obama slamming the money train door on AIG, thinking that he's gonna
do the right thing for once, and then THIS is released:

Obama Administration Has Plan to Make Veterans Pay for Health Care

H/T to Wayne McDonald @ associatedcontent.com

http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... _make.html

It's too bad stupidity isn't an impeachable offense.

OK, this is another break with my personal "no more than 1 post per day"
rule, but the situation is that important.

And I'm also that angry, too. If you haven't heard it already, try this item
from CNN:

WASHINGTON (CNN)

"Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the
Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make
Veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private
insurance.

"But the proposal would be 'dead on arrival' if it's sent to Congress, Sen.
Patty Murray, D-Washington, said.

"Murray used that blunt terminology when she told Shinseki that the idea
would not be acceptable and would be rejected if formally proposed ...

"No official proposal to create such a program has been announced
publicly, but veterans groups wrote a pre-emptive letter last week to
President Obama voicing their opposition ...

"Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under 'consideration.'

'A final decision hasn't been made yet,' he said."

---

How's that for a stupid idea.. So stupid that even Democratic Senator
Murray can see it!

Although the above story is nauseating in its revelation (although, for
some reason, unsurprising) of the Obama Administration's disdain for
American veterans, what is truly sickening is that Veterans Affairs
Secretary Eric Shinseki, a retired U.S. Army four-star general, would
have listened to such a proposal without threatening to resign if it was
ever mentioned again in his presence!

In my opinion, Shinseki has lost any claim that he may have had to the
respect of his fellow veterans because he is obviously more concerned
with his desire for power and political influence than the wellbeing of
those that served under him, as well little concern for those that have
served in past wars.

As to the Obama Administration's obvious slight problem with honesty, I
think the following news item, from the BostonGlobe.com web site, says
it all:

March 12, 2009

Ft. Bragg, N.C.

"Michelle Obama, who has declared supporting military families as one of
her signature issues as first lady, is stressing that issue in her first out-of-
town trip."

I'm with you, Bro.

That would be one hella nice "thank you" for your service, now wouldn't it?

This is the most senseless thing I've ever heard or read about.

I pray it gets shot down in flames straight to hell.

Sorry to rant, but this sucks long and hard.

You don't treat Wounded Warriors that way.

Well, maybe in RUSSIA.

You get the point. :???:

I just can't see that being anything more than a proposal that somebody put in front of him for consideration. Some dick got wind of it and went nuts, blasting it as gospel to the media, etc. Of course he wouldn't do anything like this, especially after this at the end of February:
WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama said his upcoming budget would increase the number of US soldiers and state the true cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, while outlining a number of other plans geared to get the faltering economy back on track. Setting out his priorities for military spending, Obama said late Tuesday in his first address to a joint session of Congress that he wanted to provide relief to men and women in uniform with higher pay and a larger ground force.

"To relieve the strain on our forces, my budget increases the number of our soldiers and Marines," he said in the speech.

"And to keep our sacred trust with those who serve, we will raise their pay, and give our veterans the expanded health care and benefits that they have earned," he added.

More than seven years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq have put unprecedented pressure on the all-volunteer military and their families, with top officers blaming a recent spike in suicides in the army on the relentless pace of deployments.

Obama's promise to raise the number of soldiers and Marines appears in line with the military's plans to expand its ground forces by nearly 100,000 troops.

Vowing to restore "honesty and accountability" to government spending, Obama said his budget "for the first time includes the full cost of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"For seven years, we have been a nation at war. No longer will we hide its price," he said to applause.

Obama's jab at former president George W. Bush referred to his predecessor's controversial method of accounting for the cost of the two wars through "supplemental" funding requests outside of the main defense budget.

Obama said his administration would scrap wasteful contract work in Iraq and impose tough scrutiny on mammoth weapons systems that grew out of the Cold War, though he offered no specifics.

With a grave economic crisis and an expected $1.3 trillion deficit, big cuts are expected in the vast US defense budget - which represents more than 40 percent of the world's total military spending.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has already warned of major budget cutbacks, citing expensive weapons programs such as the F-22 fighter aircraft as possible targets.
If the completely unthinkable should happen (it won't) and this crap somehow makes it past Obama (it wouldn't get through congress, though) I will officially admit that he's...well, what most (not all) at By-tor have been calling him. (But it won't happen.)
