I make it a personal point to thank any vet for his/her service to our country.

Some are in their 80's, 90's and 100's and have never heard it in a
human voice.

And besides, like Owlie said, it totally catches 'em off guard and is a
wonderful way to "pay it back" to a vet.

Just remember that NO VETERAN will EVER belittle you for thanking
other Vets for their service to their country.

No, but I've seen them choke up and some cry.

Dude...you're kidding, right?

told me how people shake their hands and thank them for being willing to serve and fight, not only for our own freedoms but so that others may have them too.
I did this very thing over the weekend while filling my tank. I surprised myself, and apparently the soldier, as his eyes grew wide, staring at this long-haired, smiling citizen. He thanked me back for the recognition and and rewarded me with a smile a mile wide. Priceless.
Everyone within hearing distance cheered!
I would have Halforded at the top of my lungs. GED, I love this country.

Yes, I am 100% kidding.

But I was more referring to your mention of getting a tear or two on the final night of the Republican convention.

Damn, I totally misread you there. :-)

Yes, I did and I was a pussy too. I think when a guy can cry it shows just how real the situation is. McCain touched me that night, no denying it. I like him a lot for that.
And if I ever get to see him live I'll kick his ass for it! :-D

You better pick a moment when the hockey mom isn't there to protect him... ;)

Hey.
I'm probably just paranoid, but I think I wanna clarify something.
You know when you're hanging out with your peeps, somebody says they got choked up at a movie or something somebody said, etc., and some smart-ass like me breaks the "tension" with something like, "Pussy" or some other opposite-of-what-they-mean comment? Gets everyone laughing and onto the next giggle. Well, I hope I didn't cross a line when doing that a while ago in this thread. I honestly didn't, and would never insult somebody (unless it's Palin <---see, there's one) and mean it. Especially a person or people that I respect like cops, friends or anybody in the military (except that dog-throwing guy.)
You probably all already got this and wonder what the deuce I'm talking about, but I thought it important that you know that I was truly just being that hang-out smart-ass. K?

No offense taken here, BBO. Actually, I enjoy the balance you lend to our banter.

Sad will we be if the day ever arrives where we cannot be honest and real with each other.

Thanks, guys. You made me feel better just in the nick of time. Gotta go for the day. See you back at the sandbox tomorrow.
