The technology is far better than it was 5,10,15 years ago. The by product isn't desirable with nuclear power plants and there is the terrorist threat to consider. If these things could be addressed, it's cleaner than fosil fuels. ....But I much prefer wind, solar and ocean energy, with that being said; I'd have to say no' as we have the technology for my personal prefernce's, as stated above.
And you?

I'd like to see more wind, solar, and ocean energy too. But they aren't nearly as efficient as nuclear power. So I'd like to see a lot more new nuke plants as well, both for cleaner air and for less dependence on forign oil.Mr. Potatoe Head wrote:The technology is far better than it was 5,10,15 years ago. Hey, I heard that a small wind farm is going to be built just about 5 miles down the road from me! Those things look so cool. I can't wait to see it done!
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

I would love to see more wind, solar, and ocean energy. I'd also like to see the rivers utilized, through the dams. However, *sighs* when wind farms have been proposed in various areas groups have come out against them because they "mar" the landscape or are bad for birds. When we have dams on the rivers that are producing energy for us as well as controlling flooding, groups come out to have them removed so that salmon will come back, even though the salmon haven't come back to the rivers which have had their dams removed.Mr. Potatoe Head wrote: I much prefer wind, solar and ocean energy,
A little levity, if I might be permitted to post such here.

There's a lot more environmental concerns when erecting a dam than fish.
Three gorges dam in China 607' high 1.4 miles wide and 4 million people relocated. There has been numerous studies....But one still has to wonder about the studies not done, such as the impact of that much weight, it could cause a lot more havoc than previous thought?
In other news Lohachara Island in India has disappeared under the waves displacing thousands of inhabitants due to climate change.
I don't want to change this subject as I think it is very important at any rate I'd like to know if your for stem cell research or not. Just a yes or no then we can get back to global warming.

Period, end of discussion, climate change and not any other thing possibly sunk it?????
And the stem cell question.............................who you askin bro?
My answer is I don't want to see it prostituted by whom ever might be doing it. If it is totally beneficial to mankind and progress..............well maybe. I'm still in serious debate with myself on that one.

That's really a hardship on the people of that island who have been displaced. My condolences go out to them.
Since you provide an anecdotal example to make your point I will provide one as well.
Below is a picture of some of the mountains that surround the valley where I live.
![Image](http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/401328229_1f0b53c138.jpg)
One can go hiking in these mountains and find fossils... of sea creatures! And the valley floor here is at an elevation 4500 feet! This whole place, including large portions of the mountains, used to be underwater.
My only point is one that I've made a hundred times but seems to bear repeating... this planet is always in a state of change. Always. It has never been static. Temperatures rise and fall. Oceans rise and fall. We're told that all these continents we have used to be one big land mass. The change will continue. We are powerless to stop it.
Does that mean I think we should recklessly pollute? Quite the contrary. I love the earth and believe we should exercise responsible and caring stewardship over it. You're talking to an old boy scout conservationist here.
But the government charging "carbon taxes" isn't going to solve anything.

Well, this is interesting. Comments on global warming written by the founder of The Weather Channel. He scolds a lot of people in here, including me. But I'll post it anyway.
By John Coleman
It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the ?research? to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.
Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild ?scientific? scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minute documentary segment.
I do not oppose environmentalism. I do not oppose the political positions of either party. However, Global Warming, i.e. Climate Change, is not about environmentalism or politics. It is not a religion. It is not something you ?believe in.? It is science; the science of meteorology. This is my field of life-long expertise. And I am telling you Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam. I say this knowing you probably won?t believe a me, a mere TV weatherman, challenging a Nobel Prize, Academy Award and Emmy Award winning former Vice President of United States. So be it.
I have read dozens of scientific papers. I have talked with numerous scientists. I have studied. I have thought about it. I know I am correct. There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril. I am incensed by the incredible media glamour, the politically correct silliness and rude dismissal of counter arguments by the high priest of Global Warming.
In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend.

As for the dams, yes there are more environmental concerns when erecting dams than fish. These dams have been in place for decades and they have helped to keep flooding from destroying parts of the Lower Elwha Reservation. In past times the flooding would cover the whole valley and now it only covers the lowest parts. It is fun, though, to watch the fish swimming over the roadway.Mr. Potatoe Head wrote:There's a lot more environmental concerns when erecting a dam than fish.

As for stem cell research, that is a huge subject that I could see a thread started for. I can't give a quick response on it since there is so much to it.
Onward and Upward!
I see there are some common themes coming out from those who are non-believers in Global Warming. Themes such as "it's a scam", "environmental and political motives", "manipulated data", "bogus global warming claims", "wild ?scientific? scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda", "well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens", as well as "There is no run away climate change. The impact of humans on climate is not catastrophic. Our planet is not in peril", "Global Warming is a non-event, a manufactured crisis and a total scam", and "In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious". I see these things mentioned in multiple articles.ElfDude wrote:Well, this is interesting. Comments on global warming written by the founder of The Weather Channel. I must ask why must some of you always find trauma, when in fact there is none? Myths are nothing more, nothing less than recast stories of the past, with a hint of truth stretched with time. I assume before the written word, stories were spoken and passed down of hunting, love, warring tribes and the first cave painting was more than likely a collaborative response of language, rather than some sort of individual genius toward a busy street corner. The earth 'IS' more than 4 billion years old, not four thousand, nor ten thousand....But four billion and perhaps more, that's 'why' you can find fossils upon mountain tops! This is a scientific fact not a myth, evolution a scientific fact, not a myth. The missing links are from traumatic occurrences on this planet that made some species leap as in the chicken and 'his' egg. I hold my feelings back so not to hurt others, yet my intelligence is suffocated around people of faith and this world of ours is not going to move forward as long as people believe in cold horse shit soup or are stupid enough to move to river bottoms.
