Palin unaware of Russian energy meeting in Alaska

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

DOVER, New Hampshire (CNN) ? The campaign of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said the Alaska governor was unaware of a visit by Russian energy officials to Anchorage on Monday.

Eight high-level officials from Gazprom, Russia?s state-controlled energy conglomerate, traveled to Anchorage earlier this week to meet with the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the chief executive of ConocoPhillips to discuss energy projects and the possibility of expanding into new markets.

The meeting on Alaskan soil comes at a time of chilly relations between Russia and the United States following Russia?s invasion of Georgia in August. Both Palin and John McCain have been critical of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on the campaign trail, and Palin raised eyebrows last month in an interview by saying that Putin ?rears his head? by dispatching Russian jets into Alaska?s airspace.

Palin has argued that her state?s proximity to Russia, as well as trade missions between Alaska and Russia, have helped give her the foreign policy experience necessary to be Vice President. But the campaign said the governor did not know that the Gazprom delegation was meeting with the commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, who is a Palin appointee.

?Alaska has been, and will remain, very selective about companies with whom they do business,? said Palin spokesperson Tracey Schmitt.

We play this aerial cat-and-mouse shit every day with mother Russia.

Why Palin (apparently) doesn't "know" about the "visit" shouldn't be
misconstrued.

I mean, after all, they're not doing business with HER are they?

That's nothing her underlings can't handle.

(And you thought she didn't have a clue....)

Was either Obama or Biden aware of the meeting?

What a weird way to write an article...
Company drops Firestone name
Tires, stores unchanged, but corporate identity is altered

By Jim Mackinnon
Beacon Journal business writer

Published on Wednesday, Oct 15, 2008

BBO, a regular poster at By-Tor.com was apparently unaware that the iconic, Akron-based Firestone name will disappear in January in many places, but the tire brand will live on as part of a major corporate restructuring for Bridgestone Group's North and South American subsidiaries.

The tire maker on Tuesday said it is removing the Firestone name from many of its subsidiaries effective Jan. 1 to better reflect them as members of Bridgestone Group and to simplify things for the public. BBO knew nothing of this decision.

The Firestone name will be retained ''with its own identity as a historic product and service brand'' within the new corporate structure, according to Mark Emkes, chairman and chief executive of the Japanese tire maker's Nashville-based Bridgestone Americas Holdings Inc.

BBO was also oblivious to the fact that in one case that is the reverse, the Bridgestone name will be dropped from a significant subsidiary in favor of the Firestone name.

The company will continue to keep and promote the Firestone name on tires and other products, spokeswoman Christine Karbowiak said.

''The Firestone tire brand ain't going anywhere,'' she said. ''We are going to continue to support it and build on it. . . . We're not going to
mess with success.'' BBO's office did not immediately return phone calls requesting comment.

TV Station Censors Candidate's Bank Failure Gaffe

In an effort to avoid alarming viewers, a TV station censored a
videotaped statement by a congressional candidate who incorrectly
claimed during a debate that two major banks had failed.

WFMZ-TV muted the audio and blurred the lips of Democrat Sam Bennett
as she made the erroneous remarks about the two banks before airing
the debate on Monday.

The debate was taped Friday in front of about 200 people and webcast
live. At that time, the mistake went uncorrected by her opponent,
Republican U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, and the moderator.

But hours later, one of the banks contacted Bennett's staff about the error
and they in turn alerted WFMZ, said her campaign manager, Josh Levin.
Bennett meant to say the banks had "nearly failed," he said.

The station altered the videotape after consulting with Dent's campaign,
the Federal Communications Commission and the National Association of
Broadcasters. It also added a disclaimer, approved by both candidates,
telling viewers of Bennett's mistake and noting the banks' names had
been removed.

"In the end, we did not feel that broadcasting the names of the banks
served the public in any way," station general manager Barry Fisher
said. "Because of the economic times we're in ... a statement on
television can cause an immediate effect."

Obama Blames Fox News for His Elitist Reputation

The liberal elite's arugula-munching messiah blames Fox News for voters'
perception that he's not exactly one of the guys.

The Ivy Leaguer whines:

"I am convinced that if there were no Fox News, I might be two or three
points higher in the polls. [?] Because the way I'm portrayed 24/7 is as a
freak!"

"I am the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-
gun-owning, effete, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants
somebody like that?"

Not me, all I want is to cling to my guns and my Bible.

"Yeah, shame on Fox News for not toeing the line and praising The One
without question, and for not burying any story or opinion that would
be "inconvenient."

"I'm sure they'll be dealt with when the Ministry of Truth is formed in
February of 2009."

I'm not laughing. It could happen.
