The Pentagon Memorial will be open to the public today, Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
Dedication ceremonies are underway as I type. The moment of silence
for the Pentagon impact was just observed not long ago.

I saw a news blurb about the memorial there.
The water benches point in the direction of the planes approach to the Pentagon.

Right Bro....but there's more to it.
The benches are indeed aligned to the impact path.
The benches leaning TOWARD the Pentagon represent the victims on
the jet.
The benches leaning AWAY from the Pentagon represent the victims in
the building.
Each bench has flowing water underneath, and the rocky walking
surface lets you "hear" yourself walk while you reflect.

Indeed sombre, headline today was one of Harpers election promises to pull troops from the east in 2011... "you have to set an end date for these things" he is quoted saying... Anyone campaigning anywhere for 'pulling out by' a date just says sit on your hands for 3 years then take over the country again, its all right don't worry. the article also included that "100 canadian soldiers have died" 14 a year is pretty damned fine odds for a war.

Facts (I like weather...what can I say?)
1) The wind band area is larger than Katrina. Think about that one.
2) Houston proper has NOT been evacuated. I just pray they are far enough inland.
3) Ike has the potential to generate 50 foot waves along the Texas coast (because of the shallow water).
4) If the NFL is cancelling a game thats two days AFTER the hurricane makes landfall, do you think they are concerned about the cleanup efforts? (six words Roger Goddell: neutral site within 100 miles west...)

They'd better get the hell out.
Last broadcast I heard said that anyone staying in the URQ (Upper Right
Quadrant) landfall area has a good chance of DYING.
My thoughts and prayers are with those in harm's way.

GALVESTON, TX -- Aircraft have been dispatched to the Gulf of Mexico to try to rescue 22 crewmen on a stalled freighter in the dangerous path of Hurricane Ike.
Earlier, officials had said they would probably have to ride out the storm on the freighter.
Petty Officer Tom Atkeson says rescue swimmers are on board five Coast Guard and Air Force aircraft, including two helicopters, a Falcon jet and two Ospreys. They're expected to reach the ship by 1 p.m., Central time.
Twenty-two men were aboard the 584-foot freighter Antalina, adrift about 90 miles southeast of Galveston. The Coast Guard received a radio call for help early today.
Atkeson says the aircraft include some with hoist operations. He says the rescued crewmen will be transported to either Houston or Corpus Christi, depending on fuel and weather.
The tanker in question is full to the brim with oil. Not sure what the gallonage or tonnage of that would be.
They were going to have them stick it out originally because if they got blown in enough they could drop an anchor and ride through it. The Coast Guard's theory was that if they rescue them there will be nobody aboard to drop the anchor and you could have a gigantic oil-filled torpedo coming right at you.
