I stayed tuned. Nothing happened.
And since I'm really not supposed to be downloading videos at work... how do I spot used tires being sold to me as new?

Look at the sidewall of the tire. There will be a "DOT" stamp, then a
hodgepodge of code numbers/letters. Alone at the end will be a 3 or 4
digit number...that is the date it was made; first two digits being WEEK,
last digit (or last two digits if four shown) is the YEAR.
For example,
"0302" would mean
third week of 2002.
The video showed (well known) tire dealers willfully selling tires
6 years old...and older as NEW, and they showed lab footage
of older "NEW" tires coming apart at highway speed, both in the lab and on test
vehicles equipped with outriggers (training wheels, if you will) to keep
them from overturning.
I was shocked. Some tiremakers even put the code on the INSIDE
sidewall of tires, so you actually have to crawl underneath the vehicle and
find it that way!
You can bet a dollar-to-a-donut I'm gonna check mine from now on.

I can't imagine all the road miles I have put down on .........AHEM......new tires.
You bet I'm giving both rigs a good lookingover tonight after work.

The 45 year-old man mentioned in this story was my very best friend from about age 15 through 33 or so. He's the guy that sold me the Korg in November.

From what I hear, my old friend wishes he could just crawl under a rock and die.

My prayers are with the kiddo, and well as the man whom I am sure never would have lit it off had he known what would happen.
I cannot imagine the grief . . .

What a tragedy for all involved. That kid and his family, I can't imagine all they are going through now and will for, quite likely, the rest of their lives. Your friend, ugh...to have the knowledge that you didn't mean to, but did, cause such pain for others....
My prayers are with all.
How are you doing, Elfie?

How very sad. The boy's stepfather seems to be a very kind human, willing to forgive so immediately. I hope the kid gets to keep his leg. I hope Craig can recover from what is certainly going through his mind and heart right now.

Any news from your friend on how he is doing? Or how the boy is doing?

UGH. Geez, it's like, one of the saddest things I've heard. Happens in an instant and is there for a lifetime. I honestly don't know how Mr. Miller has the strength to carry on. He's a stronger man than I.

A friend here went and visited him over the weekend. Miller was burnt in the blast himself but took no shrapnel like the boy. He really wishes that he could have been killed in the blast and the boy spared from injury. He's not really eating or sleeping.
The family of the injured boy is responding with forgiveness. Other members of the community are ready for torches and pitchforks.
I can't imagine being anyone involved in this. Tragedy on all sides.
