Conflicts in the Middle East
Moderator: Priests of Syrinx
There was some talk here recently about the one-sideness of the reports on this war, about how we hear talk of Israels' strikes, but none about the other side striking Israel. DA mentioned that he hears about both sides but didn't know what we were getting in our media.
This morning I heard the news on our local radio twice. I heard only about Isreali agression and Lebanese deaths. The local paper did have a short article on 8 deaths in Israel though.
Most of what I hear or read is about how bad Israel is and very very little is on what Lebanon or the Hezbollah are doing to Israel.

Victor Davis Hanson puts it so much better than I can:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZD ... MzNDhmMzk=
Read the whole article here:When I used to read about the 1930s ? the Italian invasion of Abyssinia, the rise of fascism in Italy, Spain, and Germany, the appeasement in France and Britain, the murderous duplicity of the Soviet Union, and the racist Japanese murdering in China ? I never could quite figure out why, during those bleak years, Western Europeans and those in the United States did not speak out and condemn the growing madness, if only to defend the millennia-long promise of Western liberalism.
Of course, the trauma of the Great War was all too fresh, and the utopian hopes for the League of Nations were not yet dashed. The Great Depression made the thought of rearmament seem absurd. The connivances of Stalin with Hitler ? both satanic, yet sometimes in alliance, sometimes not ? could confuse political judgments.
But nevertheless it is still surreal to reread the fantasies of Chamberlain, Daladier, and Pope Pius, or the stump speeches by Charles Lindbergh (?Their [the Jews?] greatest danger to this country lies in their large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government?) or Father Coughlin (?Many people are beginning to wonder whom they should fear most ? the Roosevelt-Churchill combination or the Hitler-Mussolini combination.?) ? and baffling to consider that such men ever had any influence.
Not any longer.
Our present generation too is on the brink of moral insanity. That has never been more evident than in the last three weeks, as the West has proven utterly unable to distinguish between an attacked democracy that seeks to strike back at terrorist combatants, and terrorist aggressors who seek to kill civilians.

Liberalism and socialism are diametrically opposed.ElfDude wrote: An American liberal, however, would prefer our governtment to be more socialist
You'd be hard pressed to find any mainstream liberals, any mainstream Democrats, any mainstream socialists or for that matter any mainstream Nazis who buy into it.As to the conspiracy beliefs about 9/11... you'd be hard-pressed to find many mainstream conservatives who buy into it.
9/11 conspiracy theories are not in the mainstream, whatever your politics.
That's not what I said.As to your statement about Israel invading Lebanon before anything began... .
I see the distruction on both side but more on Lebanon every night on the news.
Is it really justified 20 eye balls for a 1000 ,does 2 childrens eyes equal that of an adults?
It goes beyond land they are fighting over it is a strategic hole in the wall for all of the middle east.
If Isreal lost to Lebanon then Syria would march in to fight over Lebanon and Isreal then Iran would come down the road of Isreal Lebanon and syria so another reason why Iran should not get nukes.
It is in our best interest to make sure Isreal wins and it has nothing to do with religion
The only way war is going to stop is with education, a future for the people with a sense of dignity.
One more thing it is not going to stop anytime soon to many people have revenge and hatred in thier hearts.
End of story

When evil is allowed to compete with good, evil has an emotional populist appeal that wins out unless good men & women stand as a vanguard against abuse.

Hmmm... I get the impression that you and I have a misunderstanding (wouldn't be the first time ). Perhaps in the dictionary they're diametrically opposed. But I'm talking about what I see in day to day life (over here, at least). American conservatives favor a free-market system. American liberals want further restrictions, higher taxes, and larger welfare programs. It almost sounds to me like when I say "liberals" you hear what I would call "libertarians". But that doesn't quite work either because American libertarians root themselevs in the Constitution. I ask this next bit with absolutely no sarcasm in my tone... could you please explain to me your personal definitions of conservatve and liberal?Devil's Advocate wrote:Liberalism and socialism are diametrically opposed.ElfDude wrote: An American liberal, however, would prefer our governtment to be more socialistYou'd be hard pressed to find any mainstream liberals, any mainstream Democrats, any mainstream socialists or for that matter any mainstream Nazis who buy into it.As to the conspiracy beliefs about 9/11... you'd be hard-pressed to find many mainstream conservatives who buy into it.

As to the other thing, I'm afraid the 9/11 conspiracies are found the most in two groups. One is the extreme right, such as the John Birch Society which sees conspiracy in EVERYTHING. The other is in Democrats. And not just the kook fringe. If the survey is correct, and one third of the population buys into that stuff...
Well... one third of the population are also Democrats. Republicans aren't buying it. So, you do the math.

Well... what do you know...

And then...Reuters admits altering Beirut photo
Reuters withdraws photograph of Beirut after Air Force attack after US blogs, photographers point out 'blatant evidence of manipulation.' Reuters' head of PR says in response, 'Reuters has suspended photographer until investigations are completed into changes made to photograph.' Photographer who sent altered image is same Reuters photographer behind many of images from Qana, which have also been subject of suspicions for being staged
A Reuters photograph of smoke rising from buildings in Beirut has been withdrawn after coming under attack by American web logs. The blogs accused Reuters of distorting the photograph to include more smoke and damage.
Reuters admits to more image manipulation
News organization withdraws photograph of Israeli fighter jet, admits image was doctored, fires photographer. Reuters pledges 'tighter editing procedure for images of the Middle East conflict'
Reuters has withdrawn a second photograph and admitted that the image was doctored, following the emergence of new suspicions against images provided by the news organization. On Sunday, Reuters admitted that one of its photographers, Adnan Hajj, used software to distort an image of smoke billowing from buildings in Beirut in order to create the effect of more smoke and damage.
The latest image to face doubts is a photograph of an Israeli F-16 fighter jet over the skies of Lebanon, seen in the image firing off "missiles during an air strike on Nabatiyeh," according to the image's accompanying text provided by Reuters.

Clearly they have chosen sides, and it's with the Hezbos.CygnusX1 wrote:"al Rueters" strikes yet AGAIN....
The is reminiscent of Dan Rather and Mary Mapes trying to destroy the Bush campaign by running a news story based on false documents.
It will be interesting to see if there is any outrage from other major media outlets about this. I'm not holding my breath.

Man, this just keeps getting better.
Reuters employee issues 'Zionist pig' death threat
A Reuters employee has been suspended after sending a death threat to an American blogger.
The message, sent from a Reuters internet account, read: "I look forward to the day when you pigs get your throats cut."
It was sent to Charles Johnson, owner of the Little Green Footballs (LGF) weblog, a popular site which often backs Israel and highlights jihadist terrorist activities.
In the threat, the Reuters staff member, who has not been named, left his email address as "zionistpig" at hotmail.com.
Reporting the message to his readers, Johnson wrote on his website: "This particular death threat is a bit different from the run of the mill hate mail we get around here, because an IP lookup on the sender reveals that he/she/it was using an account at none other than Reuters News."
Speaking to Ynetnews, Johnson said: "I was surprised to receive a threat from a Reuters IP, but only because it was so careless of this person to use a traceable work account to do it."
He added: "I think it's more than fair to say that Reuters has a big problem."
