Sadly slavery does still exist. Two thirds of this planet's population is locked in economic slavery to the US and the EU. This is unlikely to change if we are left to our own devices. This is not an excuse for taping semtex to your body and detonating yourself in a busy market, but it sure is a good recruiting tool. If you ask me, whether we have a peaceful, tolerant future is down to whether we - the West - vote responsibly or not. The US is governed by morons. As is the UK and several other European states too. This is caused by a complete failure of the media to actually give us the facts, without the spin. It's difficult to tell who's actually pulling the strings these days. Is it Big Government, or is it the media moguls who only tell us what sells. It maybe says more about me but most people I know who do buy a paper don't really read it anyway. In fact, the papers they do buy contain very little news anyway.

I don't see this situation changing any time soon. Maybe when California falls into the sea people will suddenly see who's really in charge. That's got to be long overdue.

Don't forget all the slavery going on in Africa. Not simply economic slavery, but physical slavery.

I do not directly see the economic slavery of other nations upon my nation, but I do see the willing slavery that Americans put themselves in every day by choosing to "buy now, pay later." The average American can't keep what he makes simply because he has chosen to enslave himself to credit card and loan companies.
