I read it a while ago on the basis that I can't criticize something unless I at least have some idea of what it's all about.....I really wish I hadn't bothered.
As has been said by others, the religious issue is merely a distraction from the fact that it is a poorly written piece of crap. I honestly felt that my intelligence was being insulted with the ridiculously short "bite sized" chapters and the barn-door obvious "surprises". Coupled with very sketchy research and two dimensional characters, it all adds up to a very substandard package indeed.
I should add that I have nothing against "pulp" fiction, and love to read old Conan and Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, but where as these are immensely enjoyable rip roaring yarns, this rubbish was just cobbled together tat. I for one will not be going to see the film....
Ach, if Dougie was here he'd tell you himself....

I've yet to find any of my pals who liked the movie.

Just saw the movie. Enjoyed it. So did my daugther who read the book. Even my 11 year-old enjoyed it.

Last time I saw it was about 5 years ago when I was caring for my dying godfather. He would watch it everyday and eat a few cookies.
