Astronomy

Post by schuette »

there used to be a thread but I cant find it...

is anyone gonna be trying to catch a glimpse of Comet 73P/Schwassmann Wachmann...it has broken up into about 60 pieces now and will be passing the Ring Nebula in the constellation of Lyra on the 7th of May...keep your fingers crossed for clear skies that night...you unfortunately need a telescope for this...

also if you get a chance to see Jupiter through a telescope the now its amazing....it's really close...on the 6th of May it will only be 410 million miles away....again since it will be up for one complete turn of the planet...it takes 10 hours... keep fingers crossed for clear skies :-D

even if you've not got a telescope take a look east at sunset..you cant miss Jupiter it's 10 times brighter than any star around it...just look at it and be amazed at what's out there... :-D

I got a pic of the Ring Nebula last week. By accident, no less. I've never been able to find it with a telescope.

If you live on or near the ocean, you get a much better refraction than further inland...

When I was underway on Navy ships, you could see most of the planets with the naked eye on clear nights...

I'll be looking upward too...we had a nice clear night last night, with a half-moon and a couple planets visible on (our) western horizon...I would assume Venus and Mars..

I reckon Mars and Saturn would be more likely. I think Venus is a morning object at present.

really? we call Venus the "evening star" here, 'cuz it's usually the first to appear at dusk...just over the western horizon...

it was mostly clear as I staggered home from th epub just now.....

I was out taking photos last night. I got M13 (looks like a star though), but no sign of the comet. So it must still be fainter than M13.
