Cook book question
I've been told I can't eat out for Chinese Food anymore, and it's my absolute fave!!! Anyone know of a great Chinese Cooking Cookbook?
Sorry, Julie. I don't know of any but my brother cooks a lot of Chinese food so I'll shoot him an email and ask him for a recommendation for you.
Bummer on the not being able to order out for it! That's a rip off!

Tell me about it.
I went into anaphalytic shock a few weeks ago, from almonds. My allergy guy says I can't eat out at chinese restuarants, because they don't clean the pots inbetween dishes, and we can't chance that there are any tree nut residues around. And he's Chinese, so I'm taking him at his word on it. I'm so bummed, as that's absolute fave for take out.
Tell your bro my favorite is stuff like Dim Sum. Thanks, sweetie!![:-D](./images/smilies/003.gif)

Julie, that is awful. NO ALMOND CHICKEN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
No seriously, that is absolute suckage. I love Chinese food too. Would die if I couldn't have it at least once in awhile. I will also ask my mom if she knows or has any cookbooks for chinese food. She cooks just about everything. She's not Chinese, but loves the food.

Hey Julie, My mom says she has gotten all her chinese food recipes from the internet. She just types in what ever dish it is she wants to make. She said she has found recipes for chow mein and others.
She goes into google, types in Chow Mein, and pow - recipe......
You could do that with Dim Sum or anything else it sounds like.
That way you only get the recipes you want.
My mom has never looked for a cookbook, so no ideas on a cookbook.

Oh my! You know, at first, Julie I thought you were kidding like you and your husband had a fight over Chinese food or something. Wow! That really STINKS!
Boy! You don't realize how good you have it until it is taken away! I couldn't imagine my life without something so simple as good take-out but I understand. I'm so sorry! Really!
Ummm. I have a home-made recipe for egg drop soup. It isn't all the "real deal" but it's REALLY tasty in a pinch and easy. No almonds either (I HATE food allergies and feel terrible for you!).
Take a teaspoon of butter and melt it in a saucepan and add a teaspoon of cornstarch (you can use Tablespoons for both if you want more) and then make a small rouix (sp?) and slowly add one cup of boiling water and stir furiously so no lumps come. Once cooked it will give you a "thicker" broth. Take a cube of chicken boullion and add it too. Once the cube is dissolved take an egg and "scramble" it in a cup or bowl like you would for a scrambled egg. Slowly "drop" it into the broth and stir. The egg will cook immediately upon impact and not get "eggy" but smooth if you stir as you go.
A friend of mine has a Chinese cookbook and I can ask her where she got it. In the meantime if you like Cold Sesame Noodles I have a killer recipe for that too. Lemme know.
Good luck!![Smile :)](./images/smilies/rebel_happy.gif)

Tell me about it. My 6 year old daughter can't have wheat, milk, or soy products. Yet we manage pretty well. It's amazing in the age of the internet and specialty foood shops what you can find out there. This would have been a lot tougher to deal with 20+ years ago.Julie wrote:Oh, I do like cold noodles, so sure, I'd love the recipe. Thanks!!!
Never having a food allergy before, and now having one big time, has sure opened my eyes to the plight of so many people out there who have to monitor their eating habits. It's really something else!

Bri
