When I first came here it was a friendly good natured place where people would have a laugh, a joke and there was a large amount of good natured ribbing.

Now everyone seems to have their axes out to gring and I'm afraid to walk past it in case I get mugged.
I honestly hope this isnt the case Slaine'. What I like about this site is the simple fact that one can laugh, cry, console, be a geek, seek help and still talk about Rush :-) .

Some of you are aware of this but I thought it best to share my news, to illustrate the positive aspects of this bestest of best sites. It's only communication after all.

Being a young and handsome 37 year old with the requisite wife and children aged 20, 18 and 11, life is indeed full of suprises. None more than the devastating bombshell that our youngest Daughter Jamey has detonated before us.
Yes, at a mere 38 (next year) I am going to be a GrandFather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every parents worst nightmare to be sure, we have cried, pondered, cried alittle more but have to accept this. We always knew we'd make good Grandparents, just didnt realise it would be so soon, sigh.

There, I feel better already. A problem shared...

Gring? Sounds nasty mate :-D .

ps: I'm aware of the irony of being a young parent myself, thankyou :-) .

More importantly, how do your parents feel about being great-grandparents?

H's dad's mom was 18 when he (John Paul) was born (or was is 17, H? I forged). She got pregnant the first time she had relations with a man. His mom always told John Paul NOT to repeat her mistake. Well, I was barely 18 and John Paul was 17 when H was conceived.
The last time we visited Grammy, we were at Grammy's parent's house (Great-Grandfater was dying), and Grammy told us about when she found out H was on the way.
She visited John Paul while he was in rehab, and I was there. It was obvious I was expecting and she went to her mom's house and was in tears about it. Great-Grandma tried to comfort her the best she could, and Grammy went off to the bathroom to collect herself. When she came out of the bathroom, Great-Grandma was in tears. Grammy asked her why and she burst out with, "I just realized that I am going to be a great grandmother and I am not old enough to be!"
They are all happy about having H now, but it was quite an adjustment.

Ogg, I do agree that you shall make a grand grandparent!

Scary stuff, man.

I married at 22... and we waited... I think I was 27 or 28 when my first was born... something like that. So, since she's only about to turn 14 I hope I don't have to worry too much about this yet. Not for a couple of years anyway. :???:

And yeah... sounds like she's just following in your footsteps! ;) Hang tough, my friend.
Aren't you the guy who hit me in the eye?

33 and still waiting to have my first child. But I never wanted one before until the last few months :-) So I can be patient and wait a little longer. 8)

My son is only 4, so I must still be young.

Course, we won't talk about my being 32 when he was born, or my turning 36 Thursday.

This is the most depressing aspect. You'd think that a continuous tirade along the lines of 'learn from our mistakes' and many hours of conversation would have had some effect ?
I could understand if the family environment was unstable but there is no excuse for not taking heed. Our eldest is adamant that children will not feature in her life for an age, having a career and independance is more important to her.
It's not like it's the 40's, contraception is freely available in various guises. To think that several of her equally young friends are mothers and we point this out. Jamey struggles when baby-sitting for one night, a child having a child, sigh.
Our house is forever a hive of activity. We encourage their friends to visit and they certainly do. We have created a true chaotic family home, so much that our daughter fully intends to simply 'live here' despite the father's (a nice but young lad) intention of find somewhere to live.
As I said, we are still bringing up our own and let's face it, Jamey is too young to leave home now...and that's without a child.
Difficult times indeed.

You're a big guy! A manly hug of support from you will feel a lot more comforting than one from me. I'm sure Ogg appreciates it. :)
