from the great beyond
Hey folks i'm messanger you from Mcmaster univeristy. Its my second day here and tonite is a social dance thing and i hate hip/hop /the music that was playing don't dance and don't really care so i ducked out , better than being bored.
Tomorow i get my first taste of engineering at faculty day , the first thing they have us do is wake up and take a math aptitude test to place our tutorials after that, its laxed and well. We are the only faculty that gets a test in welcome week. we rule.
i might not be around much when classes start as i have between 27-33 hours of in class time a week, plus study time (average student has below 20 lucky artsie's) so if i have some absences it is expected, i'll check in when i can.

My grandfather, father, and godfather are all engineers (one electrical, two civil). They've all made very nice lives and careers for themselves.
Enjoy!

Fortunately most of us don't choose our college majors based on which classes the girls take... ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/rebel_happy.gif)
T-shirt seen: "I have a liberal arts degree! Do you want fries with that?"
Or the comic book store guy on The Simspsons: "Freakin' kids! I have a masters degree in folklore and mythology! I do no need this!"
Or MAD magazine in sometime the late 70's:
"You're a genius if you can get a degree in ancient Babylonian architecture. But you're an idiot if you think you can get a job with a degree in ancient Babylonian architecture."
*sigh* College girls. I live about 7 miles south of a major University. My father taught there from the time I was three (1966) until he retired sometime around 1989. I often drive through there. The pretty girl contingent there is huge! But they all look like friends' daughters to me. I can tell I'm getting old. It's too bad SM is going to be so busy with his class schedule and homework. But the girls will definitely be a distraction.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/rebel_happy.gif)

And some of us are lucky to "have our cake and eat it too". Psychology was loaded with hot babes. In my Master's program, there were 19 women and 3 men in our track. Of course, I was already an old married man by that time...sigh...ElfDude wrote:Fortunately most of us don't choose our college majors based on which classes the girls take...![]()

If the only purpose of college is to get a job, then why not go to a trade school and skip all the extraneous stuff? I think college is about a lot more than that.
Particularly, giant raging parties, and the aforementioned hot babes...
Listen to your Uncle ER, Sir Myghin. ENJOY THIS TIME! You'll have never have more freedom and less responsibility in your life.

I see both sides of it.EndlesslyRocking wrote: If the only purpose of college is to get a job, then why not go to a trade school and skip all the extraneous stuff? I think college is about a lot more than that.
When he retired my dad was chairman of his department (Communicative Disorders). He was a speech pathologist with a specialty in the treatment of stuttering. I remember him getting upset from time to time about all the money the school was dumping into what he called "nonesense degrees"; degrees that would give you no career once you had them.
