I remember two news stories a few years ago that came out within' days of each other. The first said that President Bush was the fittest president we'd had in decades. The second had a headline of something like "Bush Overweight!"
Have we recently changed the way we define overweight and obese?

Actually the muscle is heavier thing is a bit of a myth too. It technically is but the difference is so small it is relatively negligible. muscle weights 1.06 grams per centimeter cubed, where fat wheres .9g per centimeter cubed. so .16g difference or 160g/liter. so in 1 litre about 1/3 a lbWalkinghairball wrote:According to BMI you at present height shouldnt weigh more than 175 ish pounds.
Now with that said, one of the guys I was in the service was a body builder, and he was on remedial PT because he weighed 250 pounds at 5'5". Yeah, muscle is heavier, but that is the BMI for you.

BMI or no BMI the fact is our nation IS becoming fatter. Just look around.
My understanding of "obese" is 100 or more pounds overweight. And the amount of people I see in that class now amazes me. Interstingly, it appears that the more education and the more money a person in this nation has the lower the incidence of obesity. I may be wrong on that, but it is what seems true from those I encounter around me.

Ever looked in the shopping carts of the poor people around you? Now, this IS a generalization, but the ones who consider themselves to be poor and that they will always be poor, they tend to have horrid diets full of fat and starches and bad carbs but little in the way of fiber or healthy carbs, et cetera.

i tend to try and get in and out of the grocery store as fast as possible as congested areas make me irritable. But excellent observation.awip2062 wrote:Ever looked in the shopping carts of the poor people around you?
