My car's check engine light is on.

My mechanic hooked his computer to the car to get the codes, and the computer is telling him there are no codes present.

Anyone want to buy a car cheap?

If the bank didn't still have title in hand I would be dumping it faster than you can say "dealership".

I have two years left of payments on this thing.

Wonder if it's a maintenance reminder? Check the maintenance schedule
according to mileage in the owners' manual.

some of 'em go off just so you know to take it in for something as simple
as a oil change....Some Toyotas do now.

It has never done that in the past when I have been *ahem* severely overdue for an oil change. My mechanic thinks it's a CPU issue with the car.

Well, if he can't reset it, yet nothing shows...I'd drive off in it. The
sensors look for nothing more than can be found in an emission
inspection.

If there's a SENSOR controlling the "check engine" SENSOR, that would
certainly suck.

In the state of Tax-a-chu-setts they can fail you on your annual inspection for the light being on.

A lot of times, when there is no flag showing on the cars computer, simply remove both the positive and negative leads from the battery for about five minutes. Then replace them, and bingo . . . no more service engine light!

I got my Christmas present early.

Picked the car up at the mechanic's, and started it- the light was OUT.

Started it four more times tonight, and it stayed out all four times.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO happy!!!!!!!!

(my mechanic is going to give me a ration of WTF? because he saw the light on also...but hey, it went out!)

a loose gas cap will cause that too. Also, we had a Caravan that the light went on all the time, exhaust from another car would set it off. I just unhooked the battery and it would stay off for a while... The only time something was truly wrong with it was when the o2 sensor went bad. It always ran good, even with the light on.
Happy 2015!
