Well guys... I've had my Carvin fretless bass for a while now and have done nothing with it. So... it was time to try to record it. What I have here is no BBO masterpiece, but it's an okay little tune. This is my first fretless bass experience ever, so please go easy on me.

Also featured is my new hardtail Carvin Bolt. First time for each of these instruments to be recorded. :)

The track is named after a canyon near my house. It's a pretty place... especially this time of year with the leaves turning. Anwyay, here you go...

The bass sounded fine, but a little burried in the mix..........just a little. So was the kick, but overall, really cool. The "Oohs and Ahhs " are neat.

I think it's magic, Elf. Such a great, bluesy, floating feel to it. It is so difficult to play fretless, what with having to play ON the fret instead of between them. I can never get it right. You did, though and the result is just as beautiful as the pictures above. Thanks, Matt! :-)

LOL! You're fine, Leon. I enjoy constructive criticism as well as praise! (thanks, BBO... kind words indeed)

As to the mix, it is rough. I was in a hurry and only ever heard it through headphones and computer speakers. The bass drum is very low in pitch. I discovered that in the car it may actually be too loud in the mix. But when listening through speakers that aren't great at bass reproduction, it's hardly noticable, I know. Maybe someday I'll hook everything up to the stereo in my living room and do a more proper mix of it.

The real goal though was to record the fretless and not have it suck. Hopefully I got it. :)

Oh yeah, listen to it in everything you can, because in reality, not everyone has the same audio set up so it will sound different. I know my speakers need upgraded really bad. I loved the fretless, it was just a little too quiet on my PC is all. :-D

Sounds like a quiet walk down that path in the first picture with a loved one just enjoying life. :-)

I look forward to catching up with the creativity here. One for the archives: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ebWizcnzfWw The very first time I jammed with my introverted nephew captured for someone's posterity I'm sure. A little rough 'Deftones' inspired jam but indicative of the hevvy nature and of course someone else to jam with :-) Progressingly nicely I may add.

I like that repeating main riff a lot. Very cool to see and hear you again bro.

The intro was cool, lulling me into a false sense of security, then *BAM*!!

I'm gonna try to get a recording of the new Sanctum tune we have been working on. It might be a vid clip from my pic camera, but it will have sound. Live it will be. :-D
