awful to hear that people are dumping their children on hospital grounds.

Especially teens. God help them.

If the "parents" are deranged enough to get rid of their kids like that, perhaps the children are better off. Remember the "No-job-kill-family" guy. Sometimes I wish mine had dropped me off somewhere.

It's a sad thing all the way around. Who is to say that the situation those kids find themselves in after being abandoned will be any better than what they were getting at home. In some cases, though, it surely couldn't be worse.

Thanks Matt, you're a great guy for feeling that way about this miserable carcass

but I'm a better person because of it. I was lucky enough to make it work for me and learn from their mistakes. The way I am with children is a testament to that. For some reason they love me and I love to teach and get a kick out of a bit of nurture. It worked out well, somehow.

Gates and Petraeus say that we must negotiate with the Taliban.

Right. That's what I have always thought. Work with our enemies without telling them to do what we want them to do first, to "earn" the right to sit down and negotiate.

Gen. David Petraeus, who will become responsible for U.S. military operations in Afghanistan as head of U.S. Central Command on Oct. 31, agreed.

"I do think you have to talk to enemies," Petraeus said Wednesday at an appearance at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, when asked about potential dialogue with the Taliban.

"You've got to set things up. You've got to know who you're talking to. You've got to have your objectives straight," he said. "But I mean, what we did do in Iraq ultimately was sit down with some of those that were shooting at us. What we tried to do was identify those who might be reconcilable."

Yeah, I have no trouble with identifying these people and working with them. I also know that there are others who are not going to be willing to work/talk with us, and those, well, that is a different game, eh?

Very true! Ya never know until ya try and after you try and then you know they still won't play...less positive and pleasant alternatives must be utilized.
